always an excuse, never a reason

blame the
train for
taking daddy

or mama
for needing
him to work
at ten?

river for
taking his first
born son?

or the saw
for taking
his sight?

he had every
reason to
blame God
the devil
or just plain
old bad luck,
but he chose
not to,
and that is
what made
grandpa
so special
to me.

Thank you. My grandfather would have been 100 years old on the day I wrote it. He is one of my biggest inspirations in my life, and gives me the strength to know I can overcome challenges that life puts in front of me, and still love life.
