the cold

just what it sounds like

the cold
doesn't knock.
it isn't polite.
it just barges in.

shove over,
it says,
let me enter
your bones,

scrape your
lungs,
lick the tip
of your nose,

burn the tender
bits of your ear,
freeze your fingers,
and lap at your toes.

you know
how I feel
about the
cold,

and you
(so kindly)
invited
me in.

"No thank you," I said.
and If you weren't
sure before,
you are now.

Lol. KL have you ever experienced an Ottawa winter? They made southern Ontario winters feel like posers. I know this, from 5 years, I live there, as an university student, at Carleton University. Never again, will I live there, if I can help it.

I lived North of Thunder Bay. You haven't lived if you haven't experienced 60 below zero WITHOUT windchill values. When they warn you frost bite in 5 minutes, they aren't kidding. Yes, Ottawa cold is no picnic, but I am a wimp now. Minus 10 feels nasty to me. But not as nasty as stepping through that doorway.

Well, I don't have a car, so public transit, I must wait, bundled up. And yeah, the first step out is a killer.
