not what you thought but then again maybe

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

just read it and see.

"
if I wanted
a picket fence,
I'd call a
carpenter.

if I wanted
a man to fix me,
I'd call a
doctor.

if I wanted
dollars and cents,
I'd call a
banker.

if I wanted
something else,

I'd come to you
on bended knee

for more than
I do.

you might be
perfectly
suited
for all that.

but that's not
why you are
suited
to me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

open up
say ahhh
open your
heart
as wide
as your
eyes
are blue
as wide
as your
mind
lets you
there is
nothing
I say
or do
that
isn't
true
to you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

i don't ever
want you
to feel
that you
aren't
the one.

you are ...

you're
 just not
what you
thought
the one
would be.

-- i'm not much of a critic... -- i usually relay how i experienced a poem to the poet... -- and i have to say that the message of this poem is absolutely astounding... -- i relate to it intensely... and maybe i'm not reading it as intended but i'm deriving a lot of meaning from it... -- what this poem articulates for me is the fact that we may have a certain perception of the kind of person our partner would be happiest with... and then sometimes we go into a downward negative spiral thinking that we're not good enough when compared with that perception... and this poem is the voice of a partner who is gently telling us that our perception is wrong and so we are not just good enough for our partner... but "the one"...

-- there is a sea of understanding, love, sensitivity and intelligence in this piece... from where i'm lookin' at it... and i appreciate that immensely... -- this is excellent work... very giving and very compassionate in its nature...

-- you're very welcome... and i'm glad i read this piece as intended...
you cast out all the trappings of love and get down to business - which is two hearts beating as one - accepting and understanding one another

thanks for the comments and the read.
i have a lot of problems getting my heart to open up enough to say "aahhh"
too often i got the strep throat with love---

these are good...and i especially like the first one....

all the things you think i want...not so...all i want is you and your love...

nicely expressed...carpenters, doctors and bankers do their thing...

but lovers do something else...they fix the heart...

This piece is very nice and very visually attractive. But the first three stanzas, as well as the last one were so profound to me.

you're
just not
what you
thought
the one
would be.

This is so amazing and I can really relate.
Great job.

Fantastic...you're just not what you thought the one would be. Only you know who is right for you....and even if it seems you are making the wrong choice, it is yours to make. Very romantic write, KL. I liked it. Lydi**

This made me smile, especially the latter third. Poetry like this makes me almost believe in romance and true love again.

Nicely done.
