waiting for the coffee

waiting for the coffee

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

yep, this is real

"
waiting for the coffee
to quit spitting, and spurting
so I can take a sip --
right after I partake
of my new morning

I look out the window.
the snow is like the pain.
it refuses to give way
to the rain,
and once again
blankets the warm.
the birds chatter
their disdain,
for it wasn't the day
they were expecting.

I didn't want to wake up
to this throb
this pound
this ache
this stab
this sound
these pins
this grip of something
in the pit
of my stomach --

waiting for my coffee,
my new reality --
what is this pill for again?
it doesn't matter,
they can't chatter back
the snow.

inside my head

I particularly like the way you phrased the first stanza ...unique...partaking of the morning instead of the expected partaking of the coffee brewing. This is real, and the pain comes through in a raw and intense way, and yet you paint it with dignity and somehow bring beauty into it. So well done, and understood by many.

Thank you. I was in the moment, as it were, and Steph (Highonwords) suggested I write it out.

I'm glad you did.
one pill takes away one pain, but then another persists or grows from that pill...

and sometimes we just wish for Not another day...but the coffee is good, and this poem really sets the scene...

And yes, my pain paints a pretty picture some days. Pills have kicked in ahhh.
arrrrrrrrrrrgh "the pill" ........... yes! snow in the brain ..but takes away the pain ..damnable situation ... yesterday the last of our SD snow went away ..at least in the SE corner .. tomorrow is supposed to hit 70 ..crazy place .. this i especially like:
"the birds chatter
their disdain,"

today on my walk with the dog i will hear the birds in a bit different light ;) peace and joy KL ... just keep writing!

Thoughtful, painful write with a notion of desperation. Picturesque and candid.

Huh I'm excited and moreover connected to wifi. I'm going to check it out :)
i could feel the exasperation and the anguish over the lines - the cold biting - and the ending has a cold bite to it, too - makes me want to have some coffee, now - but instead i am having an orange and some chocolate - nighttime here
