A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

there are no guarantees in this life

"

Etched on me --

the feel of

your hands

your lips

your body

pressed up

against me --

but then again,

ever used

an etch a sketch?

it's as easy

as 1, 2, 3

to be

erased.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

how many would it take to

forget you?

I don't know, but I am sure

I would have fun

finding out.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I put my heart down

in trust --

knowing I could

take it back

if I must.

don't mistake

my love for you

as a guarantee.

anything worth

keeping

requires

regular maintenance.

even me.

KL, first I must say this: the only guarantee I know of is that the poetry you write will be wonderful, open, raw, and straight to the heart of things... perhaps this is true because you do "work at it", you look to find the words to poetically express yourself...

I think you are right to say, love has to be worked on, refined, sometimes even fought for to have any meaning, at least worthwhile meaning. I know some people say that when two people can sit and not speak it shows how =strong their love is... I take the opposite view, the saddest thing is seeing two people looking at everything but at each other, wordless and not sharing their thoughts and ideas about what they are seeing together. I know silence is sometimes good, but that silence can often drag out to the point where they have nothing but silence...

I would always want to have the open, honest conversations with the one I love, to work at what was so special between us... and to think it only took two marriages to figure this out... we men are often thick skulled and dull witted, fortunately we can change... so keep the frying pan ready to whack us upside the head a few times so we learn KL...

did I say that I liked your poem KL.. well I do..

Unfortunately, so true. Nothing will last forever without nurturing and love. Everything has an expiration date if it is left to wither. Good one, KL. Lydi**

Ha! Love the etch a sketch reference! It's easy as 1,2,3. If you don't take care of it, you will lose it.
I learned that lesson.

You're welcome. And no worries, I know you always come around.
regular maintenance...I love that...and the first one, yes, etch a sketch...easily drawn, easily erased, as if he or she had never been there...love gone without a trace.
