From New York City to Africa in a heartbeat

From New York City to Africa in a heartbeat

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

memories that will date me for sure

"
In my room,
I couldn't have been
more than 10 plus two
spin a 45
over and over again
from New York city
to Africa in a blink of an eye,
every beat and every word
taking me to places,
I'd never been.

Blondie, she was my hero,
and ABBA, my Dancing Queen,
Prince ruled them all from his purple dream machine.

Author's Note

Lyn Anderson
Sappy and not so profound. Oh well, sometimes we just play.
Ok kids, a 45 was a little RECORD -- we put a little thingy in the middle to keep it
spinning on a turntable -- which, if we worked hard, we could buy a cheap Candle
model, to keep in our own room ...

A 45, is that a big cassette. Think the first 45 I bought was, Lola by the Kinks. Then I got the parent lecture. On the plus side, vinyl is making a comeback.

Sad when your icons start to drop.
Music shapes our soul, and influences our thinking. Pop on Guy Mitchell's 'Singing the Blues' or Gogi Grant's 'The Wayward Wind' and I'm whisked back to a 12 year old again enjoying all that was new. Thanks for the memories. Good poem.
P.S. I like Abba Too.

Thanks. I like hearing other people's memories.:)
Now there's a little way back stroll through the past... I do remember 45's.
And that thingy. I remember that song too. Those were my Kung-fu fighting days.
Thanks for taking me back.

A beautiful and sappy reminiscence of the things that shape who we become, by being so important to us in those younger of years. I like some sappy too. I would probably die of embarrassment if anyone ever found out I still listen to Adam and the ants, so thank goodness I am only thinking this review, rather than actually leaving it for all to see :)

i love this...my first 45 record was Hound Dog/ Don't be cruel by Elvis...and then Singing the Blues by Guy Mitchell...that dates me a bit too...i had about 500 45's at one time...i hated when they skipped...but they were classics...unless left out in the sun...

and i listened to my first ones in our apartment on Sedgewick Avenue in the Bronx...fifth floor apartment.

thanks for the memories.
