FIRST IMPRESSIONS

I instantly clicked on this because I am a die hard fan of Stephen King's "It" and I am looking forward to the remake. The assumption that "it floats" was a King reference was correct. This pleases me, indeed.

FORMAT AND CONTENT

The format correlates to a turbulence of emotions; anger, passion, and fear. The writer effectively relates King's novel to her personal experiences which focuses on break ups. Visually, I can see the distraught girl sitting behind her computer, tearing herself apart by reading the "Aerial" and "Times New Roman" text that belittles her. "it" can be perceived as the ex boyfriend or girlfriend and therefore, identified as a coward or the personification of fear which was the theme of King's "It." Despite the anger, she is trying to cut contact with the ex by convincing herself that her words do not hurt her. She realizes how much of a coward he is for not talking to her in person, hiding behind the "pennywise" masque that is the virtual world.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

Stephen King is a great writer despite some criticisms I have. "It" is the longest novel I was enthralled with until the end. We must talk about that horrid ending. :P

Overall, I enjoyed this read because of its fast pace. Clearly, I am not aware of the entire situation but interpret what is depicted here. The conjecture would be that the relationship with the ex was toxic for it is indicated that he used the past against the speaker.

Well done. You have gained my attention.

Thank you for your thorough review. I first read IT when I was in grade 11. It remains one of my faves. Very correct interpretation. Bad ex, keeps floating to the surface, trying to use words to hurt.

You are very welcome. Ironic though because I read it in grade 11 as well and then reread it as a teenager and understood the themes far better than a literal interpretation.

Random question: Have you ever read "Flowers in the Attic" by V.C. Andrews? I think you would like it.

yes, I have read many V.C. Andrews books, as well as all of Anne Rice's work and many of Clive Barker, Robin Cook, Peter Straub, and John Saul. My current phase has been for Patricia Cornwell and Val McDermid, but I always read Stephen King when more come out, and re-read old ones periodically.

:D The only authors you mentioned I have not read was Robin Cook and John Saul. I will have to look them up for my reading list which is already long. I re-read as well. "Flowers in the Attic" shares a special place in my heart because there are certain themes in the gothic novel that I am familiar with. It was something that got me through grade school. We all have that one book we treasure.

Mine is a book called Hot Rod by Henry Gregor Felson. -- mentioned in a Stephen King book or two, I might add. The first Stephen King I read was Carrie, then the Shining, then it just went from there. I started reading him when I was eight. My parents never restricted my reading, believing all reading was good reading.

pardon my intrusion here but had to add to the Stephen King love-a-thon.... my first was a book of short stories called "Night Shift" and then started from the beginning of his writings... and all the authors you mention are ones I too have read.... for me the wrapping up of all his basic underlying stories was the 7 book of the "Dark Tower" and Roland the Gun Slinger.... rather epic.... I think King has written many "Great American Novels".... the one book I have not been able to get through is "Under The Dome"... I will at some point though.... anyway thanks for letting me intrude...

haha Not a problem, redzone. Personally, I enjoy book nerding with others. "Night Shift" is on my to do list because I worked third shift at a warehouse. I felt the same way about "The Dome." lol... now you did it KL... made me go and look up Night Shift and Skelton Crew.... and Survivor Type is up there with some of his best.. and I was wrong too about the shortcut.. it is actually Mrs. Todd's Shortcut and it is also in Skelton Crew and not Night Shift as I had said earlier...

yes, Pet Cemetery. My favourite female characters are Rose Madder and Delores Claiborne. Night Shift I probably liked Quitters Inc the best. Favourite male character is a hard one. Maybe Jake. Roland ticks me off too badly. Stu Redman reminds me of a certain Farmboy. ;)

I hear you on Stu Redman... lol... favorite male is Dan from The Shinning and Doctor Sleep... and yes, Delores and Rose good choices.... of course there is always the anti-hero TrashCanMan... lol think one of the things that King does so well besides weaving a great story is that his stories revolve around people who are for the most part likeable and flawed as well as those who are just plan old ugly, demented... why does Roland tick you off so much???

okay... didn't he believe though that through or in the Tower he would find his Love again and his purpose??? only to have to start all over again.... he was trapped and in this way rather pathetic... and all their love in the end couldn't help him...sadly cynical... almost like watching that movie with Jack Nicholson "China Town"...
