me, you, this room, and an elephant or two.

me, you, this room, and an elephant or two.

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson

"
a little bit of nothing

you can't know
what you don't
trite but true --
you've never been
where I went
but someone like me
having someone like you
when little things
are big
and nothings
are everything
you are more
than you can know
to me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
filling the room with polka dot elephants

dancing around the room
with 300 pound gorillas
and polka dot elephants

I am very good at
filling the room
with words.

all of them but three.

you are very good
at not saying anything
and letting things be.

I heard and said too much
prior to opening your door.

you don't want to say
what you've never said before.

each time you stand
and watch me go
you wonder
is it the last?

neither of us
is quite ready
to completely shed
the past.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------my heart to keep

sacrificed on the altar
not once
but twice.

handed my heart over
like cheese
to mice.

but for the first time
I found someone
to whom I wish to listen.

discovered something
I never knew.

the one who loves you
will never
take your heart
away from you.

Three excellent poems that weave together wonderfully. Still surprising exactly how invisible that elephant is. Good write KL

I am so blessed to have you visit. I must catch up soon.
I am not sure things should ever be left unsaid. Secrets tend to poison a relationship whether they are good or bad. Your soul is filled with poetry, KL....and no one will ever take that away from you! Always a pleasure. Lydi**

Oh there are no secrets. Only words that haven't meant what they are supposed to.:)
So beautifully stating such simple and obvious words, that a heart that loves, loves everything, even the flaws. True love can never be given, it is presented into your life and gratefully accepted. It should cost nothing, yet be priceless to both.
Hmm, sorry about that...I meant to set myself to review mode and somehow got stuck on sermon mode :)

That's okay. I enjoyed it. Thank you.
They say some things are better left unsaid... but some things left unsaid can become combustible to a relationship as well.

That is true in some instances, for sure. Thank you for taking the time.
Like cheese to mice........It's that easy to do it KL, sometimes without fits or starts. Just inane, as if the soul is made of gossamer. And the heart, a mechanical one. .....beautiful write....dana

Always a pleasure, Dana, thank you for your wonderful words.
love these 3 interrelated thoughts your have expressed with this poetry KL... perhaps it is because I am foolish, old and sentimental, romantic even, but I would abandon all past hurts, look that polka dotted elephant in the eye and tell her right out, I love you and you ain't getting rid of me unless you stomp on me and then toss me out the window... so slap me silly or kiss me, but know love isn't abut stealing hearts, its about unfettering them to soar to new and better places...

anyway... I love reading your poetry KL cause it often makes me want to shout things and become uninhibited... thanks... on and word to the wise, never ever tango with a 300 pound gorilla, nope never... they seem to think of you as a rag doll, very painful...

So you go away for awhile, and pop back with brilliance. It's pensive, as it must be. Two people who know things are going good. Why change good if it's working. Great is another time in the future.

These are so good K.
Very powerful emotions.
That in-between phase of a relationship, when you KNOW it's real but hesitant to move forward can be exciting and nerve wracking at the same time. I guess don't over think it and let it be is exactly what these people need.

This collection is one of the strongest I've read of yours so far. I love each poem (well-stated truths) & the combination of these 3 together is especially powerful. I love the nuance, such as NOT saying "I love you" but also making that point very clear (showing rather than telling). I love the theme "elephants" & how it relates to what we've been thru . . . the way your poem hints at what you've been thru . . . still working thru some aspects of what you've been thru . . . all hinted at, but crystal clear too.
