guacamole and elavil

guacamole and elavil

A Chapter by Lyn Anderson
"

random passing thoughts

"
pulling home groceries
in an stewardess carry-on
she had the time to wonder,
while shifting a sweaty pack
of toilet tissue to her gimp hand,
just what in the hell
she was thinking
when she left the car
in the drive.
a heat wave's probably
not the best time
to forgo air conditioned comfort
in favour of her feet.
what made her picture
the elavil in the cupboard,
and how many it would take?
"but she just started a new job" ...
and in that moment she realised
how easy
it is to take that leap ...

and then she went home
and made guacamole
instead.

Crap happens, and then comes along another load just when you think it can't get worse and you're teetering on the edge. It passes, the guacomole, a very sensible alternative.

I agree. Guacamole, and maybe a beer ...

of course, at least a beer, or maybe two
This one made me think about the old saying about the straw that broke the camel's back. We are not given detailed specifics, but it seems the subject of the poem has a lot of negatives in her life: a disability; possible car damage; a bum air conditioner. Then there is just the endless toil of the day after day, such as hauling the groceries in. The impression is that at a certain point she just had her fill of it and pondered momentarily on how quickly an OD could make it all go away. But then, as such thoughts do most of the time, it passed and she went home and made guacamole. A very subtle look at the turns life can take. Well done.

Very astute analysis. Thank you for taking the time
that becoming...some days its the death of us...some days it is the life....guacamole is much simpler even in its complexity of smooth and chunky.

Guacamole is far tastier and less hazardous to one's health than an overdose of elavil. Yes
