Damascus

Damascus

A Poem by Matt DeFranco

I just wanted to feel
and wanted you
to feel with me
But I was a disease
accomplished in
complimenting freak

My cheeks were
rosy red
mostly from all the blood
ran to my head

and I, instead of change
sought through
you what already coursed
my veins

"Insane", they always
said
I with the lies,
and the grains I
always fed

Led us
to Damascus
and with the wink
of your eyes,
like a little town
it passed us

And fast us,
we'd spiral down
trailing as an
F5 unfounded the town

Fate prowling on
our souls,
amnesia claiming
the meaning of
control
Those days the nights stole

So now I hold
on display
the candlestick I
brought with me
from the times that
forged
our names
As I light the
wick
in the dusk...
...towards the dawn of our better ways.

About
A great writer is not always so eloquent with his words, not always the best orator, not even the most profound within literacy; but one who is led by his pen through the inspiration of the heart. One.. more..
