Reconsideration of a Friendship

Reconsideration of a Friendship

A Poem by Angela Hunter

The more I look, the more I see
The type of person you must be
Not for lack of good inside
Rather that I cannot confide
To my best friend, but I guess when
I gave up my love, I lost you then
To her
Because we blurred the lines everyday
By how we'd act and what we'd say

Hard to believe I gave you away
And now I pay
By the things I cannot say to you
I'm afraid to
Because of the things I'd have to trade
To just have you hear
The things I give ear to
For you

It's a one-way road
And you must know
My soul is so sore
From the distance between me
And where you are
It's far
But I'm starting to see
All the different paths that there could be
For me
So I start to wander
Because I can no longer lie to myself
I know; I've felt
The lack of trust; the guilt
I watch as the glue that made us so close
Begins to melt away

And I pause today
Yet I sigh and I say
Goodbye
