Sojourner Truth

Sojourner Truth

A Poem by light and ashes

Sojourner Truth,
traveling through this world with a message of hope for slaves and people born in bondage.

The voice of one calling out in the desert with a desperate plea for water on this harsh land.

Soldier of truth for the beaten and abused.

Asking for God's love in the face of hate.

Compassion is the origin of all human beings.

God is the father of all.

Human beings choose to breed hate; the devil's seed.

Valiant souls will always be remembered.

Sojourner Truth,
a soldier of dignity.

God doesn't have a skin color.

So many do seem to enjoy breeding hate that they never stop to think that it can’t be that the rest of the world is wrong and they are right and makes much more sense to stop and think that maybe, just maybe their logic may be flawed.
Very well said.

Loved how you described the delicacy of freedom and what one has to go through fighting unwanted things to have peace and love. Historical figure touching up on and illuminating her life as the symbol of freedom and justice. I felt the powerful imagery of Sojourner Truth, she was born in slavery but got emancipated in 1826. Also an outspoken advocate for abolition. Remember reading about her in school, thanks for sharing such elegance and work that speaks bravely and wholeheartedly. Keep writing I say :) sincerely your friend in writing and life

Thank you so much, Neville!
Strange how not a lot has changed over the centuries.
In a way, slavery and ethnic cleansing is more prevalent than ever.

We live at the northern terminus of the Underground Railroad, so the story of Sojourner Truth is known quite well. A great name by the way, don't you think?
The entire episode is a great blemish that cannot easily be erased ... but then, the past should not be changed ... but the future can be.

A good write L&A
