Bear Rhymes

Bear Rhymes

A Poem by Abhilash Hegde

These days,
I look and feel like a bear.

I wear a big baggy underwear,
don't give me a stare,
it might tear.

Mirror me, I dare,
Glass will shatter if I bare.

My coat and blue jeans are for sale.
I'm looking for a new weight scale,
The old one broke as it was frail.

Come challenge me for half-splits,
But only with chips and honey dips.

I'm not the one to give up,
Come try me, I'll beat you to sugar syrup.

Don't ask me why I hibernate ?
I get angry, it's not up for debate.

After a careful thought,
I find myself a spot.

Not on a gym workout slot,
But on a nice cozy cot.

It's been a total year for hibernation with this virus wreaking havoc on our lives and our waistlines. Somehow I don't think you are alone in having put on a few kilos! I enjoyed the humorous twist in the end here; it's time to reverse the schedule....on the treadmill first and then on the cot for a nap! Nicely witty, Abhilash! :)

Hehe, thank you for the kind words. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it :)
Many of my fitness fanatic friends have been complaining that 2020 put weight on their bodies! I love your poem about this topic, very timely, & clever with the bear motif. I feel more like a hippo, since my body isn't hairy like a bear, tho! *wink! wink!* Now that my nearby fire has been tamed & the summer heat is gone, I can spend more time doing squats in my garden! Thanks for the lighthearted sassy look at how exercise regimens have been going by the wayside! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

looking for a new scale....join the crowd, my friend.

This sheltering in place has definitely made us so much less mobile...
and the weight finds our bodies and doesn't let go.

haha... very true, weight has found its way back during these times. Thanks for reading, Jacob.
The first thing that happened here in lockdown was the advice you could go out for an hour every day and exercise.
The next week everyone was sporting the latest sports gear, grannies and grandpas, people who thought gyms were alien testing centres were suddenly going through the motions of being sporty.

Thank you Paul for stopping by, Paul. Nice to hear your thoughts on these hard Covid times.
I have to admit that as I get older the cozy cot is ever more appealing and it has nothing to do with COVID

Dear Abhilash, I think there are many who are coming to terms with an excess of a few pounds gained while the gyms were closed and restrictions in place. This made me smile and yes, it is good to share some humour in these troubling times. Take care poet.
