Aegis

Aegis

A Poem by Anne Goldmann

Throughout those cold green years

I went about the undiscovered land

and discarded my tender selves.

It is only now sometimes

I unearth them

and say,

Come back, I am a safe country now.

Yeah, this is good too. When people leave you because you are a dangerous country, not safe to travel in, it's fucked. It sucks. Like we should already be settled or something. "I went about the undiscovered land." it's good. "cold green years" coldness and green aren't usually that close, but being green, like new and untested, maybe they should be.

Thanks so much! That's very nice to hear.
I like the image of discarded tender selves...though apparently they didn't take root....waiting only for you to unearth them.

You're most welcome my friend and wish you all the best in the world of writing.
Anne -- you weave a short narrative here...
yet the message is lengthy in its development...with ---
what was then and now...the missive has passed ---
and carries you back to common ground...
