Requiem for a Magic Eye

Requiem for a Magic Eye

A Poem by Elle Thompson

I've been in love with grit and shadow
Enthralled by perfect focus and lonesome subjects
I cherish a genuine smile and revel in your wide, wide eyes
I've been chasing poetry made of light
Sunsets
Overcast
Reflections

I've been dueling force-focus and shutter speed
Riding waves of sacred contrast and supernatural monochrome
I've been catching falling raindrops and stardust, full moons and empty houses
I've been obsessed with the wrinkles in your hands and the color in your cheeks

And now I mourn my magic eye
Pouring over a million shots like an archaeologist with ancient bones
A skeleton that will never be complete.

Author's Note

Elle Thompson
my camera, which I have had for the past two years or so, died this weekend
I am in a state of mourning, so this morning I wrote this, reminiscing about all the good times we had over the years. (my boyfriend took the picture, a while ago)

Very cool, could be the first poem I have ever read based on someone's camera dying. I loved it.
