The Artist in Me

Modern writings I have shunned;

Lush language has always stunned-

Me.

English teachers are eager to praise;

Their astonished smiles just raise-
Me.

I am an artist who has drawn,

A writer who has written.

The arrogance of claiming the artist title is strong,
But the pride in my work is non-existent.

This is a poem so many can relate to...
That said, it speaks of age and innocence well. You are so young (15? With all that talent? No way!) and in time the pride will come, if you're lucky, in moderation. A true artist does what he/she does because it's who they are and not for the praise...but the praise and all will come. Allow the acceptance always, and love to share and please even, but always be true to you. The praise will come, even from within in time.
Interesting to consider: rewrite this in 10 years..I bet it's at least a little different... in content, not words, I mean.
You have true talent so no worries.
