More to Me

More to Me

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

For Julie who was a beauty like no other.

"

Much less the night upon the sky

no more than the foam to the sea

So less a breeze facing the storm

did you feel for me

___________________________

More than the stars that lit the night

way more than the rain to the seed

Much more than a home to a child

was your love, my need

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
As young man my first true love was Julie Oettle. As a young man my emotions were able to rule me and the tumultuous times I had were adventures. Julie and I broke up when she started dating another man. She claimed she didn't believe that I was true to her however I had been. Years later I ran into her by accident in Henderson Kentucky where once our loves had played. Our roles were reversed. I was happily married with a child Tatertot and she was unhappily divorced. That afternoon I spent playing in the pool with her 8 yr old son swimming but as evening approached she wanted me to stay. I couldn't break the bond I had in marriage. She said to me "the man I remember would have stayed".To that I was incredulous and told her "You never knew me at all". Perhaps it is true we find fault in others for what we are guilty of ourselves.I hope she found happiness. Her lack of faith in me was disheartening and heartbreaking at the time. I think in the end she saw the error but too late.

thank you I would like to think he wouldnt mind singing for this one
Having read your poem and background story, many of my own memories were revived...the poem reminded me of one my favourites, When We Two Parted by Byron...I couldn't help but think of your work as an intro to that piece...it's hard for me to explain why I found the imagery so riveting...the less/more dynamic and the images you've used to express these emotions are air-tight and just seem to fit perfectly...I was reminded of my first love...I went through a similar ordeal, though some of it was down to me cuz of my moodiness...I just wasn't they accessible type...she actually got engaged just a week ago...we remain friends but I know we'd never have lasted...she's a totally different person, and I'm exactly the same...a truly moving poem Tate...you've said so much in these two stanzas and they certainly spoke to me in volumes.

how ironic .. you cheated on me .. i dont want you .. and then come cheat with me .. ;) too many of us fall to the temptation .. good for you sir!

your poem is very enjoyable.. true to life and most can relate .. it sucks to love and not have it returned .. especially that insane burning first one

First love indeed is most memorable, but in my opinion it is always the unfulfilled one. It is rather amusing hoemw we could love a person so much as to need him/her more than breath needs air.. very impactful, thought provoking, and exceptionally well structured piece. Gives you certain relief when you read it. Hats off!

thank you penny
Much remained concealed in your heart.
Only a fragment of your pain expressed.
But,that is enough like a classical art.
History of love is written by a great poet.

My pleasure, dear friend.
Shake a hand , see the man, feel the eyes, let the chemicals of time do their work, your gut, will talk to your head and heart but you have to shake his hand to discern.

Oh I so agree you need to take a mans measure in the eyes
We often make decisions and regret later on .. sometimes we just wish to turn back time and change a thing or two ..... maybe just maybe things could have been better ... we miss some moments and wish we could have lived them instead of turning our back ..
The need of love and the passion to live it and to taste its sweetness ... can't be compared to anything and no words can faithfully respond to such feelings and describe their strength .. great to read you as usual and so nice to be able to find my emotions hidden in your verses .....
Thanks for such a delight Tate .. beautifully written and in such a short poem ... you said it all ....
