Birth Rights

Birth Rights

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

A look at our certain future!

"

Payton

Granddaughter Payton

Wheat fields wave across the meadow

bright yellow 'neath a sky of blue

Beautiful swaths of sun bleached straw

cut down long before their due

So like the children of our city

colored yellow, red, brown and gold

Living out their lives in dog years

struck down long before they're old

This sickness flows through our land

leaving the helpless and despaired

Where all are made to be thrown out

none are saved or even repaired

When the silent spring finally comes

and all the birds are in a museum

We'll sell our birthright for a song

so children can pay to see them

Then all the beauty will be gone

as our grandchildren run out to play

Not under blue or 'cross the green

but in the trash from yesterday

At the rate we are going we are sadly destined as a race for a dry, dusty, polluted, future. Devoid of beauty, music, children or hope!.

you are by far, one of the most talented writers I have had the pleasure to meet.. I absolutely love this.. I love the picture, the font, color, the message, the flow, the rhythm, the imagery, each carefully selected word.. It feels light and hopeful and yet at the same time like a harsh wake up call.. nice job as always..

I'm of three minds here, Tate,

First, that you're an amazingly skilled, highly-intelligent poet, with an irresistibly appealing flair for composing masterful poetry, its spot-on display, introductory imagery, alluring titles, accompanying music, and themes that firmly grab minds, hearts, and souls.
Secondly, there's no doubting your gifts of insight, compassion, common sense, and passion for what's inherently right or wrong and exactly how to fluently express it.
Third, I'm of the mind that humankind will never realize its full potential until everything furnished freely that sustains us is destroyed, therefore, of necessity, is forced to create whatever's required and necessary to survive.

If I were alive in those eventually inevitable times, though, I'm sure I'd look back with great nostalgia on the days when clean air, greenery, and fauna once blessed the earth … as for the children, their children, and all to come … they'll be the explorers of life's new frontiers.

Always, My Friend, your poems gift reason for reaching deep within …
thank you, Tate ⁓ Richard🖌

How can anyone look into those beautiful, trusting eyes, and not be ashamed that we are not doing our very best for future generations.

We pay lip service, but still drive the pollution and desecration our planet ever onwards and upwards. A prime example of this, is the Prime Minister of Australia. His nation has had the fires of hell visited on it, yet still the man defends the fossil fuel industry; puts the now, before the future. He is only one example of many; and whilst such people are in charge, we will only ever tinker at the edges, rather than make the great leap forward that is needed.

Beccy.

So much truth in this piece, you are absolutely right we are running out
of the simple beautiful things because of our own disregard:(
Imagery filled in which won't be at this rate of lack of responsibility,

I remember our front yard with hundreds of honeybees drinking from clover...the bees are gone...the clover dwindling...with no bees to pollenate it. But I still see beauty...I still hear music...my baby smiles and I have hope.

A sad take on reality. Sadder still, if you allowed your children out to play unsupervised you could be charged with child endangerment. Things are not as they were.
Remember what the Milky Way used to look like?
Makes you wonder what the future holds.
Great write.

This poem is reminiscent of a painting. I like the way it appeals to all of the senses, bringing your readers so close to nature, it was as if it was an all consuming experience of one's own entire being.
