We count most years of life well spent the few touched by sorrow well lost I know the best that came and went the others bought at twice the cost

It takes some time to find the way

that leads us to life's master plan

Till then we take it day by day

as the boy grows to be a man

Matching hearts beat to inner rhyme

When minds are tired and our hearts old

oh we'll cherish those days of strife

as to touch heaven in this life

Always philosophical, Tate. I do tend to agree with Marie, however, on that V.2 line 3. - 'that' came and went instead of 'have' came and went. There is always a certain wistfulness about your poetry, that life is passing by too quickly, and you are looking back already, before it's done. Hang on to the present, my friend, before it also becomes the past.

This is quite an exceptional piece. The diverse range of inner ruminations suggests that the persona is not a static character but rather a rounded and fleshed out one. The poem itself exudes an aura of lightness, it never ventures into the dark, gritty or macabre which is a refreshing touch, especially considering the spectrum of typical literature floating around. However, it still maintains an air of reality, a sense of being grounded is what it boils down to. The persona hints at undergoing his fair share of adversity, but without turning out jaded or cynical--he's just generally no worse for wear, unlike how most authors try to write their persona off in that direction, but sometimes it just falls flat and the readers are not able to empathize or even sympathize. You, however, establish an emotional connection between the persona, and by that extension yourself, and your readers. So to speak, you give your readers a light at the end of the tunnel by the end of the poem, not exactly touching upon a concrete happy ending but give us a taste of that anticipatory promise, which is perhaps more idealistic than anything you could've set in stone. All in all, it's a lovely piece. It lifted my spirits a bit upon reading it. Very nice, great work! Keep on writing!

Interesting observation in many ways spot on I write of personal trials and tribulations but only to make the point that we as adults are the masters of our own fate I believe the better angels if our nature are worth nurturing and hope the greatest if gifts thank you

Time is a very difficult concept to explore in any realm of creativity but perhaps poetry is the most difficult one. That being said, you crafted a poem of honesty and experience which counts for more than the literary elements suggest. This was well done and I enjoyed reading this.
