Yellow Springs

Yellow Springs

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

You might just see children playing Hide and Seek throughout the street Where "all yee all yee in come free" sings of a melody so sweet

"
yellow springs

In a hollow off the main road

sits a village that time forgot

Where things flow, a little slow

and peace of mind need not be bought

The main street beckons all to see

how life ebbed and flowed in the past

Where smiles abound, the happy sound

of a life not metered nor fast

There you'll find the town Silversmith

making jewelry in a forge

The coffeehouse, echos of Strauss

a trodden path out to the gorge

It is home to the Glen Helen

part of a thousand acre woods

Steering the helm, coin of the realm

are the fruits of the craftsman's goods

There by the Antioch College

we spent a good deal of our youth

Climbing the trees, skinning our knees

among beauty we knew as truth

You might just see children playing

Hide and Seek throughout the street

Where "all yee all yee in come free"

sings of a melody so sweet

So should you find that your bones ache

from the pains of life you endure

Take a stroll, over the knoll

to the little town with the cure

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
What can I say about this village but it is heaven on earth? Here you will think you went back to the 60s. The art fairs and galleries are accented by the ancient architecture. Home to Antioch College and the Glen Helen it echos back to a simpler time. You won't find Target or Walmart. You will see and meet the local artisans. Perhaps you will even find a music festival out on main street. You will never want to leave. For here is where memories and dreams were made and still live.

A lovely snapshot of a time now past. We gain so much with progress, but at what price, we ask?

Took me back in time even though
I am not from the 60's

don't think there was too many Walmart's
when I was little we were happy and played
hide in seek and red rover red rover freeze tag
Marko Polo in the swimming pool
I remember the concession stands at the
swimming pools and so much has changed
that is gone which is sad I miss it never doing
computer stuff was out doors and
was safer then now it isn't as safe.

thank you for sharing God bless. Benita

Like a breath of fresh air in your usual stellar style Tate, those places that stick to your ribs of a simpler times' pleasures...your pic reminds me Bridges of Madison County, so that set the mood right there for me...I wanna go. Outstanding.

Love these little time forgotten towns hidden among nooks. Traveling the south every week I see these little places. My companies headquarters is in one of these towns of less than 1,000. You captured the feel so perfectly. We were talking about a town up the way that used to have one stoplight and they actually took it out. We had a good laugh over the notion of it.

You are welcome. I like old places and bridges.
This poem demonstrates the perfect tempo for the concept conveyed. A slower poem with a slight bounce and hop in the words to characterize the innocence of slowing life down. Well done.

My heart aches to go to old times which I did not see in this life. When simple things mattered and the beauty was still alive with in the environment and the interactions. It is a wonderful poem Tate.
