A Poem by Tate Morgan

Tate and I

Whatever men say in blindness

or in spite of fancies of youth

Nothing's so kingly as kindness

while nothing's so royal as truth

We get back mete as we measure

one cannot do wrong and be right

Nor deal in pain to bring pleasure

for justice avenges each slight

So to the pain of his distress

whose earnings don't tell of his worth

An honest man this life will bless

despite the misfortunes of birth

"We get back mete as we measure

I so love these lines of yours. Truly, there are certain consequences to every action made.

Nice poem, my friend. Full of truth and dignity. Dignity and upholding it is what puts value on human life. Continue to stand up for what's right. Happy Fourth.

Happy 4th to you as well. Thank you
Woefully, I think we've all experienced how social discourse has devolved to new lows while basic kindness & decency can be out of fashion. Whenever I write a hopeful poem such as yours, at least a couple jaded reviewers express total disbelief that social discourse will ever be civil again. But I believe (as clearly you do, too) that writing poems like this (& I've noticed many of yours are about the basics of being a good person) can help infiltrate the air waves & maybe one day we'll reach critical mass & go back to our old hippie love days (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wow this writing is so apropos with what's going on in the United Kingdom with Megan and Harry and the Queen and royalty very thoughtful. I found the word be Noble to be almost out of place and yet it sits in the highest seat well written

I agree my friend.
"So small are the stings of his troubles
whose earnings are less than his worth
He who shares kindness be noble
despite the misfortunes of birth"
The above lines. Great wisdom shared. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
