Life's Treasures

Life's Treasures

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Can anyone know what will come when the wind blows us cold and gale Or what direction it be from when finally we set our sail

"

The old songs loved from long ago

come to me from my long gone past

On winds they caress me tonight

whispering from dreams I had last

The old days trooped by in glory

paraded across my life's field

Displayed in panoramic view

how many dreams they have revealed

Faces long gone look out from mist

to this once wandered man to be

Speaking from my past adventures

beloved friends long a part of me

Oh how they flood through my mind

to speak of days that've gone by

Forcing me to look to the one

that came from acts I can't deny

We are not each one right nor wrong

we are the result of our times

Held to account for all the good

as well as for all our crimes

Mystic chords of my memory

look back on the road I traversed

Remembering moments I loved

as well as those I have cursed

While each loved soul has given time

to pursuit of living pleasures

Only by reflecting on life

do I recognize its treasures

For me, this work brought to mind and held shades of classicism, an influence, such as: F. Scott Fitzgerald, writing in a life as 'Victor Laszlo'
in the setting of the ambience of Cassablanca. As the picture here evokes such a character image, or possibley The African Queen the film with Humphrey Bogart... a portrayal, of such a character. These imagined and invoked, yet knowing. It is as original, as Tate Morgan and his life & times.
A life story, no not novelized or told of in other. Than Life's Tree.
As it is lived, through a Poets Eyes.
Immortalized, in scripted...
Excellance.
This piece reflects the depths of a painters image, on a canvas of words.
As it plays like a movie, through the readers mind. Enough said.
A Classical Portrayal, of A Man.
Striving...
For that perfect edge.

sometimes i find myself talking out loud when reflecting on my lesser deeds, in anguish i suppose...and i suppose that i often beam with pride or heartfelt emotion when reflecting on those better moments...it all comes down to moments, doesn't it? i think what makes us mature is the "moment" when we finally realize that moments are all we truly own in life. i love your take on this, Tate, well done!

I believe one of the most difficult treasures to obtain is self-love and with that comes self-forgiveness. Often we find ourselves worrying over things that might have been and that is a fruitless enterprise to say the least. Tomorrow lies ahead and we might still have the chance to change that but the past is gone forever. We all have our "glory days" to coin a Bruce Springsteen phrase but life can nev er be all day or all night...just as the universe is not composed solely of matter...all things have their opposites. It's learning to live with those opposites in ourselves that can be difficult. For this reason man conjurs religion, philosophy, poetry and psychology...he has superstition, romance and prejudice.
A black cat crossing our path is no worse than a white cat...but perception and acceptance of an idea may well portend destiny in the eyes of the believer. An interesting and thought provoking write here.

The essence of eternity, or at least one lifetime captured in a fleeting moment. Best way to do it in my opinion and you have done it extremely well Tate. The good and bad, the triumphs and tribulations, enmeshed, yet not overwhelming for do they not come to us in those rare moments of clarity? This is an excellent poem that I can really appreciate Tate, thank you!

A life of reflection brings many insights into the nature of the self. It affords us an opportunity to look at ourselves and our association with all else. It brings us information about how we think, what we hold to be important and the way we account for our actions. In all it tells us about our humanity. Nice write Tate.

The past may be sweet with memories, but the future is golden with harvest. We have to be moving on.

Circumstances often dictate responses which otherwise would have been different. Pointless regretting what we cannot change.THe important thing is to learn from the past to improve the future ivor
