Poetry

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Poetry and I laughed to see what with her beauty she had done We sat under an umbrella while we both waited for the sun

"

Poetry had once walked with me

held to my heart when I was sad

Helped me mend from the pain I penned

brought comfort to sorrows I had

Poetry watched my heart shiver

gave me a blanket for the cold

Held my head while lying in bed

made me wish to live to be old

Poetry then danced the night away

to entertain this sullen heart

Both cried to the tale, I tried

from life's wisdom she did impart

Poetry was my only friend

as rain poured upon hallowed dreams

Lessened the toll on my soul

lent me comfort or so it seems

Poetry offered me her hand

as we danced around the pouring rain

Washing away in just one day

what poison wreaked from months of pain

Poetry and I laughed to see

what with her beauty she had done

We sat under an umbrella

while we both waited for the sun

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
My darkest days were comforted by the poetry they inspired.
One of my favorite poems is this one. It tells the tale of how pain is so relative to our age and circumstance
Softened by Time's consummate plush,
by Emily Dickinson

Softened by Time's consummate plush,
How sleek the woe appears
That threatened childhood's citadel
And undermined the years.

Bisected now, by bleaker griefs,
We envy the despair
That devastated childhood's realm,
So easy to repair.

Such a strong dictation of what poetry means to those who create it. Completely the truth, the comfort and joy of such a thing that we may give birth to that shall never judge us, ever. In a world where nothing makes sense, we can create a map through our words and be cradled by our emotions. Bravo!

Poetry offers us an

an escape to a place
where we can contemplate

Beautiful lines here Tate. I also have to admit that poetry has been a comfort to me in my darkest times. Both reading it and composing, has concentrated my mind when loss and grief were difficult to deal with. Thank you for sharing and also for the Emily poem too. All the best.

They say that art imitates life but often art is a safe haven from bitter reality or a balm to wounds of the world. I enjoyed the read.

Thank you Fabian nice to see you again. i hope you are well.
the pic reminds me of Woodstock :))) pain is such a large and fast moving river says i ..and far more people are in it than in the river of joy ...it seems endemic to life .. what a wonderful tribute to poetry and the writing of it ..all the arts help overcome dark times ...well said ...the sentiments are uplifting .. love the song .. before it started i wondered if it might be Neil Sedaka's https://youtu.be/VCusyLPrFCo but the Cascades are perfect too! great quote in your note too by the way ..a go to poetess for any feeling of the blues

Dear Tate,
Congratulations on your win in Helena's "Poem Prompt" Challenge, with this marvelously rendered, heart-fetching piece!
In looking back through your reviews, I see it was first posted over 6-years ago, which proves that great poetry (like fine wine) improves with age.
One of my all-time favorites, you've selected (I think) a perfect song to highlight the emotional essence of your imagery and word choices, with creative, spot-on rhymes, and an even enough count to keep a nice flow throughout.
It is easy to see why Helena selected this as one of her lucky winners.

Thank you, My Fine Friend, for so generously sharing your amazing skills! ⁓ Richard

Let poetry sing of your joys to come
She who has been a freind to you
Through some of your darkest days
Let her celebrate your good times too!!!!

~ Love the verse, the muses are indeed sometimes our only freinds during darker times!
