Soul Mates

Soul Mates

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

So many lifetimes come and go between ill spent youth and the grave Hopes and dreams of generations Are the memories we all save

"

How many times have I met you

in the strangers that passed me by

Were you the one that touched my coat

the friend that once kissed me goodbye

How often have we stood in line

just to watch loved ones go to war

Then brushed away the tears of hope

as they ran off to join the Corps

Were you the one whose heart had ached

when my ship drifted out to sea

The foundered soul whose anchor broke

the one whose dreams had yearned for me

Are we destined to always be

just passing strangers in the night

Whose ebbing flowing tides of love

never met when the time was right

So many lifetimes come and go

between ill spent youth and the grave

Hopes and dreams of generations

hold the memories we all crave

Perhaps I'm just the little child

with a heart that once broke in two

Who walks the well-worn streets of old

searching for memories of you

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
Don't we all wonder if another is the one for whom we were meant?
How many lifetimes must we pass by before our soul finds it's hearts desire?
This was for the green eyes cased in Honey Hue, that I once knew.
May she find this dream to be her own .

This piece simply makes me swoon in the ideals of such times. This is by far, one of my favorites. Tate, you have donr it again, made me simply have to stop and stare at the beautiful scene you have laid out here. "Are we destined to always be,
just passing strangers in the night" Even for a moment to pass by one so precious, it would be worth a lifetime. I can nearly hear the brass band in the distance.

A beautiful photo and poem. Funny how people fall together. War bring strangers together and new friendships are create. The heart and mind look at the world with different eyes when life can be short and we need to enjoy the moment. Thank you for the photo and the amazing words.

Tate, I a so happy that you shared this one with me. It has a romantic and sad feel to it at the same time. I am a firm believer in everyone having a soul mate and I am lucky to have found mine. The thought of not ever finding him is saddening. Although I roamed for years looking. I love the photo you placed with this, it really sets the tone for your words and puts it in a different era which I really can appreciate.

yeah we are a dwindling breed i think
Great way to describe the feelings that we process through in our lives.
You had me right from the start with the photo. Brought back memories of my Dad kissing my Mom before going overseas. Great write.

Yes Tate! I think we have all felt that shadow at some time or another. Very thoughtful with a yearning sentiment that rather haunts us at times.
Enjoyed this. Beautifully penned.
Spill ink and love!

This is how I felt for a long time before I met my wonderful Eric. I had met him a few times in the bars we went to to play music. I knew I loved him, but I did not think he would ever notice me. Then one day he came to my mom's ranch for our summer jams. After that, he came every week...and now we are going to be married. But I suppose I will never truly know how it feels. Anyway, I just want you to know how much I enjoyed reading this poem. As with all the others I have read as of yet, I found no mistakes. It is simply perfect!

I could not view the image. But I liked the poem it its entirety. It rings true on a very empathetic and sentimental level with me. Thanks for sharing.

Beautifully written, I have often wondered this myself, did the one pass me by one day without me noticing? The idea of a soul mate is, I think, loves greatest desire.

Oh that fleeting glimpse.
I can only imagine how many lifetimes pass, where she's taken my order at the drive thru,
or maybe managed my shipping and handling.

Somewhere, there's a soul's counterbalance. That's truth.

Although it's also to be thought divine, should these weights ever actually cross paths.
