Scream and Shout

Scream and Shout

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Sad to see the love of ones life walk down the Isle without you.

"

The heart never sleeps like the mind

forever twists and turns

When the mind has had enough

the heart of love still burns

The mind tells the heart to tether

it's hopes upon a string

Always thinking it knows better

to make life's chorus sing

These two dance through life together

two parts of just one soul

Each searching to love another

chasing a different goal

Many a man followed his mind

to turn love asunder

But he never knows beauty's bliss

 of love he will wonder

The mind is not the final judge

of what life is about

Best to not die of a whimper

but live to scream and shout

Sad as it is to have a broken heart, one can't but think how joyous the heart that gets back up screams to the fates" Is that the best you got?"

well done Tate ... top notch rhyme rhythm and story telling says i! its an old and well worn debate which comes first ... the feeling or the thought .. the chicken or the egg ;) personally i don't think we can "feel" without first the thoughts ... just try "feeling" something without thinking first ;) but i hear the message in this loud and clear ... its the surrender to passions that breaths all the colors and fiery turmoil into ones life ...all the heartache one has is well worth the experience of strong emotional love and desire ... a great addition to your poetry here at the Cafe' ... always a treat to see you have posted anew!

I love this one, so true! we have no control over matters of one's heart as we rationally figure it out in our minds, great stuff as per, Tate.

Excellent poem about heart versus mind. My husband tells me I am too emotional, and I tell him he is abysmally unemotional -- but after 41 years, it has become irrelevant. I trust my mind more than my heart, but there are some things we must leave to the heart: being true to oneself comes to mind. Poetry comes from the synchronous alliance of heart and mind, I believe.

i tell myself that the heart slumbers in deep sleep and someone will wake its slumbering sleep to bring forth the blissful feelings of love... but i get you point here... the heart never sleeps yet a part of it does...because the heart always feels it only stop when your dead...

there will be a time that you feel like your heart is awaken by someone that just come along...that you feel you two belong together... maybe that's the time your heart will heal the past wounds it experienced...

Great work my friend.

It does happen. But I think you're better off following you mind than your heart. A heart can be tricked more easily than a mind.
Of course, David Paet Lewis has a point; love may just be survival of the race, in which case we have no choice.

Love indeed, Tate! Is it a concoction of the mind, or is it a trick played upon our senses by the heart? It certainly seems to be tied in to the survival of the race, as it's a necessary ingredient of attraction to bring about concupiscence. It does, however, seem to be time limited, as it deteriorates over time to affection, which in turn becomes habit, and habits may be broken. Which in turn poses the question, is there really any such thing, or are we enslaved to an instinctive pattern written into our genetic code? The latter is probably true, as on the termination of one love affair, we immediately go out and repeat the process with someone else, with increasingly positive or negative results as before. The heart dictates, the mind follows, with the result that we really exercise very little control over this aspect of our lives.

I have no idea what or who you are talking about in your Author's Note .. but that aside .. I do understand how people sometimes find a need to go a different way .. We promised love forever after .. and till .. .. well you know .. but 50 % of the time love is only temporary .. and there in lies the pain .. that sometimes last till last breath ..

I am not to sure of the meaning of every line .. but I understand the whole ..

Sad .. and true .. Jasmine

I too see so many hearts that want to live in a love, forever "in love". Love is alive! It either grows or does not. I really appreciate this poem, as its strength is in the truth of experience it carries!
Another well written prose that flows, and speaks of wisdom. Your choice of music always enhances your writing. The last stanza was a perfect! Well done ~ Jude :-)
