The Wind

The Wind

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

Can anyone know what will come when the wind blows us cold and gale or what direction it be from when finally we set our sail

"

When I was young through beauties gaze

winds blew by me as if to sing

Their songs of love to me were praise

that lifted me upon their wing

Rich did the spoils of time unroll

an empire's trophies I would raise

And write my name across life's scroll

to earn the laurels of friend's praise

Can anyone know what will come

when the wind blows us cold and gale

Or what direction it be from

when finally we set our sail

But now those days are tempered dear

time's winds no longer sing for me

For now the quiet hush I hear

makes life's truth so easy to see

I don't really understand what God's plan is in this regard, that our abilites and even our destinies seem to remain hidden from us in large measure (if not totally) until we are old, and, looking back, mutter, "Oh, yeah, there's where I shoulda..." I hear in this verse a certain degree of that wistfulness, that regret, and as might be apparent, I can identify with those sentiments completely. May I add here that your ability to render deep and complex thoughts in perfectly crafted rhyme and meter is such a rare ability here, and I commend you highly; it is what, in my not-at-all-humble opinion, changes a mere philosophical ramble into a poem.

I LOVE BOB DYLAN, and this song links to your poem very well, wonderful choice.

I tend to have this weird obsession with how much time affects human beings because it is the only constant which introduces us to the concept of "change". This poem was very good, I enjoyed it a lot.

I like a lot of your work.
Thank you for sharing with us! Xo

this work of yours evokes so many emotions for me,however,
I'll break it down as much as I can here...poetic...
as the winds of change fill my sails,I search this world for truth,
time unfolds the biting nails, longing for my youth,
this Ghost Ship that I ride, flowing along with evening tide,
shows the love, long denied, ignoring the pain I try to hide,
and all the fear I keep inside, crimson sunset when I died...

Youth is for living and age for recalling memories, and remembering to make more.

When we're young our priorities are different from those in later life, 'Rich did the spoils of time unroll ~ my empire's trophies I would raise' ; never knowing what's around the bend or perhaps, caring, makes for living life .. but slowing down to walking pace, to having time to appreciate things outside ourselves, that's what matters, 'For now the quiet hush I hear ~ makes life's truth so easy to see '

In time, even the sailor comes home from the sea. It's the natural order of things, I think. Profound words adorned with a terrific picture and accompanied by a fantastic song.
