Warm Hearth

Warm Hearth

A Poem by Tate Morgan

An autumn robbed by winters chill Makes way for loveless cold The winter flakes upon my sill Tell this young man he is old

Now that the summer’s light is gone

winter's dark shadows appear

The morning lit by cool white dawn

stays away another year

An autumn robbed by winters chill

makes way for the loveless cold

The winter flakes upon my sill

tell this young man that he's old

Each year passes onto the next

quicker than the one before

As now we place it here in text

loving hearts each wanting more

I mourn no more my wasted years

they leave no sound as they go

I remember no lonesome fears

as I gaze on home fires glow

The winter cold can do no harm

to the warm hearth built of life

Created of strength, love and charm

The waiting arms the good wife

The winter chill is much warmer and less biting to me this year. Having gotten married I see sunshine everywhere nowadays.

yes of course lessons are learned some are not
thanks again and love the music by the way!
Thank you for entering your poem.

As always it was a pleasure to read. Each quatrain seems deeply meditated by you, and that is what makes each one worthy of an afterthought. In particular, I liked the lines: 'The winter flakes upon my sill/tell this young man that he's old'.

Your piece is rich with symbolism, a symbolism of which you entwine so beautifully with time. We all take it for granted; every season, every day, every moment in fact! Only when the muse calls to us do we actually take a moment to pause, to recount every detail, to simply, breathe.

Thanks again,

Hi Len it was a lament on my wasted years and what i had traded for them topped with a smile
Congratulations on getting married! As a newly married man myself I would have to agree. Much harder to feel upset with someone great by your side. I'm truly happy for you and this poem is a fantastic tribute. Well done!

Hi Angi I tend to feel the longing myself
Graceful, evocative words. You rhyming seems effortless; that is a skill I do not have.

I had already read this but lovely to read this once again . I love winter and though I suffer from winter blues terribly , I have learned to enjoy it :)

Wonderful poem Tate, and home is where the heart is. And in turn that warms the heart, making everyday a sunny day- no matter what the outside looks like! It also brings a smile to ones face when they are truly in love with their mates.
