The Sky is Falling

The Sky is Falling

A Poem by Tate Morgan
"

They don't know anymore than you how to ease your life's pain Nor do they know why the winds blow or how to make the skies rain

"

"A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her. "
"Drown in a cold vat of whiskey? Death, where is thy sting?"
"More people are driven insane through religious hysteria than by drinking alcohol!"
 W. C. Fields

We knew them as rainmakers

in days that have long passed

Now they claim to be enlightened

from this incarnation they're  cast

They come from out of the woodwork

these prophets of the Lord

Claiming to be God's right hand man

here just to give you your reward

The story is always the same

bring your souls and your means

Grow a ladder to the heavens

by planting a few magic beans

Please forgive me the resemblance

with the child's tale long told

Perhaps they've been around as long

as the prophecies they've foretold

So the next time someone tells you

that they know the Lord's will

Feel the cold winds whistling by

it's their conscience that gives you chill

We see each and every time

demons never appear

And all the predictions they made

were built on nothing more than fear

They don't know anymore than you

how to ease your life's pain

Nor do they know why the winds blow

or how to make the skies rain

Author's Note

Tate Morgan
It never seems to end. These prophets predicting doom. The time before it was the Millennium. This time a date from prophecy. Always it is the same story these phony prophets of the scriptures. And always they leave nothing but heartache and disbelief in their wake.

Excellent points and very well written. In my opinion, the only prophets (for a lack of a better term) that exist are within ourselves. By that I mean, I believe that we create our own reality; thus we choose to create outwardly what we think and feel on the inside (both individually and collectively). Unfortunately the negative seems to be outweighing the positive, but we are still able to see beauty and joy in life despite all the negativity trying to overshadow it all. That's just my opinion though... This was an excellent piece that was a pleasure to read. Thank you for sharing.

Tate, I really like this. "Panting the Magic Beans" was a great line.

We live in a rip-off world where strange people use their strange beliefs to touch the lives of others in the cruellest ways. People are entitled to opinions but those opinions need be based in hard facts not 'possiblies' predicted in a long shadowy past. Though a few lines in your poem lose a little meter, the wording is, as always, exceptional.

To requote you:
"The story is always the same
bring your souls and your means
Climb a ladder to the heavens
just by planting some magic beans"

This was such a raw piece! It's resemblance to the child's tale exists but barely so. I find it refreshing, especially after all the 'end of the world' predictions, my friend.

Very fresh work here!

Always great reading your pieces Tate.

Wise words my friend and I coulden't agree with you more on this subject. To me most people are followers rather than leaders and there is always somebody willing to make a dollar from that. Fake prophets search for followers but a real prophet would tell people to find their own way.100/100

aptly said ...it is only our reason that should work ... no prophecies required

Very nice and that is so true about the false prophets because remember the world was suppose to end in May 23 or 24 but, look were living. The bible says no man knows the day nor the hour and I'm pretty sure the other religion bibles give no pacific date of their ending either. People should know better to believe people so easily. They should continue their life wisely and when the time comes you just got to be ready. This was very good poem and really gave room for thought. Well done and keep it up.

I love it especially considering i read it a couple of days after the whole May 21st ordeal. a whole bunch of people quit their jobs because they didn't think they'd need money, and now they're all out of work, all because of harold camping.
good write though. i always like poems that rhyme but don't sound forced.

I completely agree with your thoughts on these so-called "prophets." They have no idea what's actually going to happen and anyone who thinks so is a fool. I especially loved the last four lines--what wonderful rhymes and rhythm.

So true! Will we ever learn that the God is not going to give us a specific date, but will end this world when they are ready to take us. Prophets and Rainmakers(as you creatively call them) that predict doom always seem to have a plan for you-as long as you pay $19.95 +S&H for their book first.
