The Fire of Winter

The Fire of Winter

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

The wind scorches the flesh...

Like fire.

White rain dampens the hair...

Sending tremors up the spine.

A blanket covers the ground...

But it’s frozen,

Granting no security.

Winter...

It spreads it’s flames

Destroying the greenery...

The outdoorsman's joy.

It rules the land

For months on end,

Trapping souls indoors,

Shivering at the concept

Of trudging through slush.

But alas,

It will end...

So we hope...

We wait

For the day

The sun demolishes

The icy fire.

I liked how you described Winter. Those cold days are hard and nasty. I like the strong description leading to the sun. Thank you Briana for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love this poem. I loved how you used fire to describe winter. A wonderful contrast. Beautifully done. Very well written.

Fire and Ice, but the burn is worth it.

From this I would wager that you are not a fan of the cold weather. I have always thought the snow to be an absolutely beautiful spectacle, if a bit nippy. But I can see people wanting to see green again, along with warm sunshine on their skin instead of cold winds.I really like how you associated the cold with fire. It really does burn in its own unique way, doesn't it?

You are good depicting nature with your piece... The metaphors are very well place not over cooking your and drowning the flavor. I see balance and rhythmic flow ...
