Like A Box Of Chocolates

Like A Box Of Chocolates

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

Blinded by anticipation

The sweet chocolates of life

Mysterious in nature

Surprise to the senses

Reaching absent mindedly

Delighted by experience

Rich is this flavor

To be savored, this treat

Another moment passed

Another choice is had

Sour is the moment

Yet gratitude bestows the soul

Living continues on

Decisions continue shaping

Golden surroundings to buds of tongue

Smiles to be mustered for this passing

Unpredictable is each second

Lessons lie in each breath

Like chocolates in each heart shaped box

One needn’t know what waits to be gotten

I liked the photo and the perfect ending. I believe we over think life. Need to enjoy the good days and survive the bad ones. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

a sweet treat of a poem. I always chuckle at the saying that life is like a box of chocolates - because more often than not - I get the horrid gel centered blobs - or a mouthful of carmely aged nougat instead of pristine dark wonderment. Just my luck I suppose.

Upon reading one of my works, your first thought was, Harry Potter (not my intention) upon reading this, my first thought, Forrest Gump (the difference, your intention). I believe you brought Forrest’s metaphor out and very clear . . . mysterious in nature; such is life, each decision, choice, word spoke carries with it a action/reaction, and no one is wiser to the outcome that may be delivered. . . very well done.

Wonderful way to compare life to the box of chocolates...so true in so many ways....As Forrest is know to say...Life is like a box of chocolates! :) I like your version which makes the reader really think about the similarities and how we must deal with what we are given. Great job!!

Your welcome!
I realized when you referred to buds of tongue ... how we are often guided ... based on flavors and taste. And quite often ... it makes it to the expressions we create of the world around us. Your poem is certainly one ... as much as the idyllic scenes I'm getting of Swiss villages ... I visited some years back. Nice ...

a good write..so true that life is so unpredictable...what we have today and do not value might get away from us.. and we wont even have memories to cherish of...
