I Am Green

I Am Green

A Poem by Briana O'Connor

I am nature in all its splendor

From the leaves of tall trees

To the blades emerging from the ground

I am the oxygen to the living

I am the ability to conceive

The opportunity for the young to thrive in the womb

The growth of the population

I am fertility in all its miracles

I am your cure

The medicine that mends you

The spirit that replenishes you

I am the healer of the universe

But alas, with the light there is always darkness

I am the opposite of healing

The reason you feel weak

The cause of your death

I am sickness in all its devastation

I am the sixth deadly sin

Jealousy at its worst

A black hole of discontentment

I am envy and I want what you have

I am your wants, more than your needs

Too much is never enough

No end to the lengths one will go for desire

I am greed and I am hungry for more

Good green bad green, for everything there is an opposite.

I will nurture you and starve you at the same time...
I am a beautiful green pond that will entice you, then drown you.
Two sides to a coin...and in the end it will leave us broke.
Two sides of a coin, two halves of a poem...
just like a lake's reflection...
but the reflection discordant with what it is reflecting.
nicely done, Briana,

From nature into the human condition. Wonderfully done! This is a very thought provoking piece.

Once more you write about the dilemmas we face about our discordant, dichotomous selves. The struggle of 'good' and 'evil' in our souls. Written with pathos.

In this place of dualities, opposites abound. For every light there is a shadow. As you have shown, green can mean different things, not all of them pleasant.

Yes Greed. No concern for today or tomorrow. Destroying land and places to make money while some land left empty and destroyed. I liked and I understood this poem dear Briana. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry.
