Never a Fairytale

Never a Fairytale

A Poem by Azure Montessa (Blue)
"

A typical tale of unhappy ending.

"
He had the eloquence of a poet,
the valor of a knight,
the wisdom of a sage,
and the fortune of a king.
His seeming perfection was a tell-tale,
but I was too crazed to care.

Hi speeches were clever cliches,
his embrace, an enchanted prison,
his love was a lie of lust,
and his kiss, an unforgivable offense.
For when I was still his,
he was never really mine at all.
I was nothing but a fleeting interest;
a remedy for his boredom.

The story has turned sickening sweet,
and passion revealed itself to be a pretense.
He walked away,
head held high in apparent victory,
for he had crushed another dreamer's heart.
And off he went for another thrill,
in search of another damsel.
He left me in my  own tower of torment,
writing this pathetic poem,
about him who loved and left.

Our story was my scar,
a typical tale of unhappy ending,
penned in the advent of a heartache,
in the twilight of my dreams.

He was never a prince...
Just another frog in disguise.
And ours was never a fairytale...

A excellent real life fairytale in the poem.
"He was never a prince...
Just another frog in disguise.
And ours was never a fairytale..."
A lot of frogs in a life. Should be a written test to sort them out. Nice flow of thoughts led the reader to the realistic ending. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

It's funny how perceived perfection in a love interest can go either way. It can blind us or enlighten us, but even in the case of the latter, it's denied if we love that person enough. This is a stellar piece of poetry, one of your best and certainly one of your most emotional. For whatever reasons, us poets tend to gravitate to unhappy endings. Great work here Blue :)

Oh, yes, been there, done that, Blue. It is an agonizingly painful experience but girls get jilted and jilt often and do survive. From what I can read in your very well-written poem, you're well on the road to recovery since you see him in terms of his faults now and not his virtues. Wonderful work, I applaud you!

Never kiss a frog. The frog may grow to like it and you may turn into one yourself if you go too far down their path of smoke and illusions ...

:) You're welcome hun.
You are so very talented Blue! Your way with words is beyond description.

Too many times have I been through this and dealt with my own frog prince. This is beautiful and sums up many of my relationships.
