A lot like a mess

A lot like a mess

A Poem by Ashleyx

A lot like a mess

In the way a storm

Sounds a lot like laughter

When listening close is paired

With the importance of interpretation

A lot like the best

While predaceous manners permitted

In exchange for sentimental favors

Until favors are less valued

When manners are worthless

I’m a lot like a mess

With the missing favorites

And chaotic rhythm

Behind the mirror door, wiped clean

Imitating what you love best

A lot like the dress

Worn, liked, loved in fervor

On few occasions, special ones

Until the room has emptied

And the lights no longer bring out her shimmer

Just like a mess

With miss-marked boxes

Dust covered and disregarded

Thoughts of their contents

Worn into fond memories

Before sat beside the curb and taken further forgotten

I like the way you used the words "like a mess". Making the message different in each set of lines.
"I’m a lot like a mess
With the missing favorites
And chaotic rhythm
Behind the mirror door, wiped clean
Imitating what you love best"
A strong ending to a excellent poem.
