Distance

Distance

A Poem by Giggling Star

DISTANCE

The distance looms as far

as all the years gone by

And yet distance is of human design,

as is time

On this earth

where man makes his home,

the ethereal does not live by man’s rules

We are not really separated

in the only way that matters

The sunlight kissing you,

is the same light kissing me

As you breathe in,

I breathe out and our

air unites us

The butterfly I see,

may be the same butterfly

you are perceiving

So if we choose

to live in

this earthly plane,

the obstacles

would be virtually unbearable

The time and distance

that appears to keep us apart,

would be insurmountable

I prefer to exist

in the world

of light and air

Where we are together in spirit

… it feels more genuine

And if we never again,

have the chance

to feel our bodies touch

We know we are entwined,

for now in earth’s lifetime,

and will be,

          for eternity

Wow! This is a an excellent free verse poem from you, Star! I included it in my favorites because of the concept which I really like. I can fully relate to it. This one made me emotional again at this time. I remember a friend in this style of writing....even the lines (and word choice).
Perfect lines:
"The distance looms as far
as all the years gone by
And yet distance is of human design,
as is time..."
I love this one. Kudos!

You're welcome. =)
I would say it is a type of freeverse - and it is lovely. The entire poem is beautiful, but the last verse truly is amazing. I prefer to exist in the world of light and air....
I think of all your poetry this is my favorite. Going in my library!

Oh goodness, I am terrible at types and forms, I just go with it baby. I would say insurmountable however, instead of unsurmountable ...
