The Gift of a Friend

The Gift of a Friend

A Poem by Rose
"

This is Gail's tribute to Ruth

"

‘A priceless gift is a generous friend

A precious gem to mine

It’s rarer than the Ruby red, or any ore you’ll find

Not the Green Moghul, nor the Kuh-i-noor; its brilliance can outshine

It’s far above all moneyed costs; beyond the price of kings

A loyal friend is the truest kind

A gift without ‘compeer’

A friend in need when you’ve lost it all

Is worth her weight in gold.

A friend with whom to brave life’s storms

Is the truest gift indeed

This beautiful gift of a loving friend

Is a gift that moves the heart

To spread beyond its beating walls, a love that’s shared within

It strums the chords and harmonies, of melodies I hear you sing

It thrills my heart to hear you sing:‘My friend; my love-yours too.’

Yes, you’re truly a loyal and priceless friend, a precious gem to keep

And so with a grateful heart I accept; this gift from you to me.’

Kind of smarmy I know , but that's what you get from a good friend at a birthday party.
