Simple Gifts of Life

I got around to thinking one day about all the little simplicities in life that we take for granted: the sun rise every morning, the embrace of a loved one, our rights and freedom to exercise them,etc

Eyes open to the Sun’s rays, full of warmth and hope

Illuminating everything in mystical gold

As the sound of the birds’ gentle song

Accompanies this display of Nature’s beauty

This is the world in which they live

Yet still to them it seems dark and grim

 

They wake to a life filled with liberty and choice

And an abundance of luxuries, the recipe for joy

Unfulfilled need is a sense they do not know

Like flowers that are given the essentials to grow

This is the world that they have

Yet somehow it is cause for them to be sad

 

The embrace of a loved one,

Promoting comfort and peace

The laughter shared with a loyal friend

That can chase away the tears

This is the world that they know

Yet still they are filled with a sense of sorrow

 

Some cannot claim the enjoyment of life’s gifts

When they are taken away, they are truly missed

Simple as they are they are the reason for us to live

Too often they go unnoticed, often unappreciated

This is the world in which we are blessed to be

A world of beauty that we can taste, touch, and see

Your absolutely right about the things you have mentioned.....Wonderful concept and beautifully presented.....There is a simplicity in the poem which makes it much more beautiful to the reader.....We take life's biggest gifts for granted, the very moment we are breathing is a blessing of life, we are so busy with material attaintments that we don't even think about looking at the simple and the most beautiful gifts of our life.....Thumbs up!!!! touching and really nice rhyming, i notice you refer to 'they' in the last lines of the first three verses, do you mean those who find it more difficult to deal with life in general or am i just reading wrong into this,

Yes exactly. By "they" I meant the people who are struggling and forget to see the beauty around them. The best things in life are free.
