Trapped

Trapped

A Poem by The Avid Bibliophile

Suffocating in darkness

Light too far to be seen

They laugh or they pity you

And nothing in between

Surrounded by many

And yet all alone

You can’t look at their faces

Never will they atone

When you go home for the night

It’s just more of the same

You’re invisible always

Except when they need to place blame

Back at school the next day

No reprieve has yet came

They whisper and point

At your head down in shame

You’re sitting like always

Unwanted, alone

When you see a girl coming

Over on her own

“I’m new here, you see,”

She says to you,

“I have no one to sit with,

And I guess you do too.”

You smile, make room

Wondering if she knows

How happy you feel

You’re the one she chose
