What if?

If candlelight was magical 
and elves could steer great ships,
If cherubs took sabbaticals 
and fairies 'skinny-dipped',

If butterflies could sing on key 
and angels walked the earth, 
If money really grew on trees 
and rainbows had no worth,

If Santa Claus was just a myth 
and sunshine wasn't real, 
If jelly fish could learn to dance 
and boulders learn to feel,

If minstrels never sang the blues
and candy wasn't sweet,
If Leprechauns wore tennis shoes,
and fishes had left feet,
-
If trains were shaped like 'valentines'
and all balloons were pink,
If elephants did pirouettes
inside of skating rinks,

If munchkins grew to 12 feet tall 
and witches were all nice,
if roller-blades had jelly wheels
and 'once' was really 'twice',

If puppies came in 'happy-meals'
and squares were really round,
If the oceans never heard of 'seals'
and thunder made no sound,

If a day lasted a thousand years
and kittens learned to talk,
If there were no such thing as tears
and teachers ate their chalk,
-
If sea shells were as big as stars
and 'toad-stool' was a name,
If cats drove round in motor cars
and different was the same,

If there were motels on the moon,
and cartoons in the sky,
if Monday never came too soon
and pigeons couldn't fly,

If the world turned up-side down 
and water flowed up-hill,
the one thing that would never change is:
I would love you still!
