Final Fluttering Leaf

Final Fluttering Leaf

A Poem by barleygirl
"

seasons changing . . .

"

February sparks anticipation
each new sprout a hopeful validation
catapult ahead with winter behind
chase a final fluttering leaf entwined
encouraged by the babbling brook’s bubbles
soon I lose track of previous troubles.

Foamy boulders my golden leaf skirting
like tawny locks and amber eyes flirting
sliding gracefully along the contours
reminiscent of your shy overtures
buoyant memories are strangled by a troll
romping mesmerized into a dark hole.

I scramble to find my fluttering leaf
but winter consumes old hopes like a thief
no more comfortable leaves for me to chase
seasonal losses compel me to face
compulsory change like a caterpillar
time to release smothering familiar.

Coming of spring is lonely as can be
bound to stop missing all those who left me
finally the sun melts a big breakthrough
try to embrace all that’s startlingly new
now I see my way clearly to summer
pursuing a very different drummer.

dearest Margie... just survived a death-defying ride
in a rain storm in early January... even snow falling would be a blessing
with better footing. Now I will plant pansies that will survive snow
and winds where love abides. February red roses will arrive in
boxes with ribbons and Valentine words. And then March will bring
Irish blessings and such... so we are on our way to buds of new
beginnings where Gladiolus reach up to the sky and Summertime is
best with cool lemons and sugar. truly, Pat

barleygirl,
So much hope sprinkled all through "final fluttering leaf." The title is lovely and is a signal for the hope-seeking theme within your poem. When I read this I found myself feeling the commonality of what you expressed of how this February transition time pulls at me every year as just the slightest little hints of a time of hope's growth is coming. Anyway your gift for lovely rhyming and musical intonation is just pure joy to read! Thank you for placing this poem- it was so picturesque in dark and light layers of life expressions..................... Blessings to you. Kathy

As we say up here in the Great Lakes area, 'If you don't like the weather...wait a minute' Spring is a good time, new life bursts forth, the world is greening up, there's a freshness in the air. And caterpillars will become butterflies. Good write, B.

What truly beautiful words, what superbly laid verse. But most of all, for me, is its spirituality; , a confluence of future fine shadowed by a dark past. Tears in my eyes here:
'I scramble to find my fluttering leaf
but winter consumes old hopes like a thief
no more comfortable leaves for me to chase
seasonal losses compel.'

'Think my comfort is to remember that the coming season births from the goodness made from debris. Maybe that suggests we learn, feel and feel and alter from our history.. and because of that, cherish what's about to burst forth like the opening of a bottle of bubbly, heady, wonderful. '.. encouraged by the babbling brook’s bubbles ~ soon I lose track of previous troubles.'

You know how to use words, how to construct a special language. Beautiful.

Spring certainly is a mixed bag. It's beautiful, with the new life and greenery, but initially, everything is brown and wilted. Meanwhile, over here in Minnesota, there's still snow everywhere. ^_^

spring always refreshes and invigorates me ...i connect no losses in my life to it ..the winters in SD are hard long and brutal (though i have finally moved south) your third verse is the sadness for me ..a glimpse of summer coming one day and the next a slap in the face with Arctic fury aaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrgh! ... that was always the killer for me ;) i like the personification of the stream ..and your golden leaf at long last falling from a resistant limb .." sliding gracefully along the contours" ..mmmmmmm beautiful woman of the brooks and streams :) in closing i am set to face past losses ..understand though hard to do, must be let go .. new sun kisses gracing the melt of jagged edges ... such a contrasts of thought and emotions you present with this one ..well done says i!

I like the fact that despite the spring season being one of rebirth, that you also mention those that have left you. I thought it was only me who found this a sad time, despite not really being aware of anyone passing in the spring. Maybe it's just natural for our minds when we see growth, to remember those that grew before us. Whatever the reason is, I like the feeling of calm it brings, after the turbulent winter months, it is nice to be able to pop out to the shops without going hang gliding :)
Nicely captured BG.

I love this, BG :-)
The way seasons change shows again the construct of existence which can be witnessed. It teaches us something--'change'...the only constant thing of life is change. A new beginning or a sad ending, there is so much to learn from everything. We also have to keep moving witnessing the ups and downs. Leaves will fall but new leaves will also bloom instead.
I love the intent as well as content of this write.
Keep the sadness away and astray :-)
