Milky Tranquility

Milky Tranquility

A Poem by barleygirl
"

mornings on the California coast . . .

"

Barely-creased peaks like a softly-folded gown
craggy outcrops slice tall sentinels all around
newly-budding growth is draped in the distance
surrounding placid sips of my simple existence.

A daybreak dance of frisky woodland creatures
cheering the choir of cheeky feathered screechers
belching frogs settle down after cavorting all night
girdled by such grandeur, I’m a silly little sprite.

This morning a hush revealed the lacking revelry
buried by a spilling blanket of milky tranquility
sweetly-spread sparkles of barely-there joy drops
moist spirit of the sea in bracing vapor pops.

Just last week winter flung almost-frosty dawns
later on basking in balmy amid my coffee yawns
now it’s swiftly summer swathed in maritime fog
springtime lasted only as long as the leap of a frog.

"springtime lasted only as long as the leap of a frog."

spring does tend to be like that. like your words, teases us 'til all out summer takes over. this is pleasantly delightful. great capture of those magical mornings. your words speak timelessly as they usher in a new day ... :)

Me too. This time, I shall enjoy the coastline more.
I’m in awe of your talent once again my friend. The stunning photo coupled with your masterful words and imagery is like an IMAX experience. Every phrase, every line, every image alive, vibrant and joyful. “Craggy outcrops slice tall sentinels all around”-exquisite line and intricacy of rhyme. Perfection in form, flow, meter, spot-on rhyme. Your love of your home is evident, deeply-moving and celebratory. “Springtime lasted only as long as the leap of a frog”- yes, but your poem made it a beautiful leap.

What a breathtaking view you have from your home Margie dear. You are also an expert photographer. The description of your surroundings sound like a paradise on earth. In the spring when everything is in bloom it must feel like heaven.

Still, I think I'd trade my weather for yours. Is that what's called a "marine layer" in the photo? I remember my brother taking me to Huntington beach one time, and it was as you describe--chilly and misty and ... just not beach weather! "Don't worry," he said, "It's just the marine layer. It'll burn off in a little while." (which it did)
I love the ease with which you spin words (that make sense) about seemingly mundane things. Mundane no more!
