Watching Her Dance

Watching Her Dance

A Poem by barleygirl
"

Rocío Montoya, flamenco dancer from Spain . . .

"

Inhaling with zeal
she flaunts her rubies
proud flesh enlivened
tracing accentuated curves
framing proud proprietorship
assured every titillating thrust
injects a lively truth serum
upon watching her serve
her crimson flamenco
in Riverdance.

Entranced I quest:
when was the last time
I felt so grand in my body?
Dancing down a rugged trail
or piston legs punishing pedals
or swishing a backstroke froth?
Or was it learning to walk again?
When did I stop occupying
every bit of my flesh
as she does?

This is an eyeopener for me Margie! The question of the day...I just sit here stumped. when did I? I thought instantly I still do ....an then realized I could remember the last time. I mean there are times I still write like I do, I still feel like I can inside...in pretend...behind my closed eyes in my mind...deep within, even within my breath...but when? did I stop occupying my flesh? You are shiny Margie! Like a bright new penny!

THIS
WAS
WONDERFUL.

I am so lucky to have stumbled upon your poem. I read it twice.
Once with my own raw sense of visualization.
And once after watching a video of a Flamenco dance.
And let me tell you that I could hear the dancer breathing, the ruby earrings twinkling as her glory unfolded. And a few of your lines also made me wonder. Your desire to fall in love with your body is contagious. Starting tomorrow, I will work out and take care of myself more seriously.

Some of my favorite lines:

"Entranced I quest:
when was the last time
I felt so grand in my body?"

NEVER STOP WRITING

P.S: If you're curious about the Flamenco dance video I watch, take a look at the link below. It's absolutely mesmerizing.

Yes, this is a great share! *smile*
This poem asks me, "when did I stop..." and I think that's the first question we have to ask ourselves when moving forward and gaining back what we've lost. Now we have to ask the question, "how do I start again?" Thank you for posting! I can't wait to read more of your work. I will look up your book on amazon!

You are most welcome.

Thanks for stopping by to share your thoughts about my message (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
What beautiful, extravagant thoughts, and a deeply moving dedication. Flamenco dancing... like taking fire into the soul and having it flow from your body. It is art, living art, and your words not only celebrate it but they make us all reflect on our own beings... and what it is to live to the fullest places each and every day.

I've seen her on Riverdance. It takes many years of dedication to do that and I'll bet a good deal of pain and possibly therapy at some point. I knew someone who knew someone so I know.

And yet, I understand your feelings. I suppose I could say something similar about the young guys I see with the firm muscles the girls love so much. I used to bike all the time but progress and lots of cars made me stop.

There's a grace and sensual factor in flamenco dancing that dates back who knows how long. But there's a grace in our own bodies when we relearn how to move them and feel that vigor we once had. I'm still struggling with that.

I like your descriptions here and the reason you wrote it. Many of us that are older can certainly relate.

Nice one, Margie. :)

Hispanic women are very comfortable in their skin. I envy that. They are not shy about wearing form-fitting clothing or moving rhythmically to the music. Mesmerizing to watch. Your words dance down the page. Loved this one! Lydi***
