Therapy Dogs

Therapy Dogs

A Poem by barleygirl
"

all dogs qualify . . .

"

Humans must deem our species superior
our decrees doled out upon those inferior
our condescension couldn’t be any drearier
our apex attitude, a pain in the posterior.

Studying lowly creatures that do not speak
with a grasp of words, we think we’re unique
those duly degreed read beast mystique
as if the wag of a tail is otherwise oblique.

Those granting privileges posture and preen
rules and regulations define how we screen
qualifying to heal requires a tedious routine
not every b***h is crowned therapy queen.

Dog lovers would sob if it weren’t so funny
the medical machine wants all treatment money
denying that every pet has that healing honey
rip those prescriptions, I’d rather rub a tummy.

With warm canine cuddles my health is enhancing
a dose of doggie gusto and my mood is advancing
animalistic adoring antics and my heart is dancing
even untrained therapy dogs will still be freelancing.

There goes my heart! “Rip those prescriptions, I’d rather rub a tummy.”- So Yes!!! My Pebbles pup is perched above me on the couch giving me doggie kisses right now... Margie, your beautifully-penned, cadenced and rhymed, tongue-in-cheek tirade, is right on-point. ALL dogs are born ‘Therapy Dogs’- no training needed (except by the ‘powers that be’). You know, I know exactly what you mean sisterfriend! Hope the world is treating you gently and always Sweet belly rubs sent to Lola and Paloma ( bunnies too)!

Very often I wonder how other more advanced species would look at us, human beings. Most likely as we deal with the animals around us. I tend to sed some love evrey time I look in the eyes of an animal. My cats know I love them. There is this sense of calmness coming from animals that helps us humans to get our defenses down and allow ourselves to love. I enjoy the humor dancing between the sound of your poem. I use to read it aloud to feel it better. Thank you.

Best kind of medicine......no amount of pills can make people smile like an animal can. We have an old folks home about 20 or so miles from us and they use therapy with chickens...just let them walk all over the place and the residents love them (plus free eggs). Also works the other way around in my case..we have a rescue dog who we've had for 4 years and we had to give her a lot of therapy just to get her to interact with us. She's the most miserable dog we've ever had..won't kiss you and your lucky to get a tiny wag of the tail when you come downstairs on a morning. Loved your poem

A wonderful poem. Our animals, always willing to heal us. I have a can, daughter's left and her cat became my cat. When I am stressed. Lay on my chest and she purred. I enjoyed your words and thoughts dear Margie.

That's true.
Pets are the most loyal friend a man could have. People only comes around when everything is fine and they'll stand far away when life seems to be harsh on you. Only those we so called animal will be loyal enough to stay by you. Their presence gives hope and make you feel you are not alone.
I wonder why we call them animal when they are most of the time useful than human. If I should give them a name, I'll call them the 'Soul companions'.

Your first stanza says perfectly the attitude most humans show towards other creatures. It upsets me all the time profoundly.
I feed a few Rolinhas ( little brown wood pigeons) on my window sill. When they see me by the window, they come flying and land near by places... it not only fascinates me but also humbles me... for their trust of me satisfying their needs. Animals do comunicate to some extent vocally, all my three cats responded when I called them and shouted at me to come out of the bathroom if the door was shut.
Therapy animals are a true gift of nature; Any connection with another living being enhances our lives, whether it's a cat, dog or a bird... especially when we are in a vulnerable state of health the best way to improve is through love of God's creatures. Your love of your dogs is beautifully illustrated in your poems and it's always a wonderful treat to absorb. Um beijo grande para você Querida.

This made me smile so much... so much I almost barked! I love my little dog Mindy... when I wake her in the morning for her first walk, she is immediately excited. When i get home after a long day at work, she greets me at the door as if she hasn't seen me in a year. You bring all this joy and light to life.. oh they are a deep, beautiful therapy indeed... in so many ways.
