Upwelling

Upwelling

A Poem by barleygirl
"

photo: my coastal mountains

"

Off the central California coast lies a cavernous trench
it’s so chilly in the depths where organisms flourish
upwelling currents effervesce from the crevice
urging plentiful plankton toward the surface
setting a smorgasbord for sea creatures
compelling our cyclical coastal clime
icy undercurrents touch warm air
injecting our marine layer
high, dry, and warm
(not cold, wet, and drippy
usually thought of as “fog”)
summer awakenings so soothing
under a milky spill from the ridgetops
mysterious mornings plentiful this season
spinning my beginning on an upwelling push
carried away and buoyed by this floating vapor
thriving in the natural abundance of this unity dance.

Mountains shrouded in mist are mysterious. I guess it's better to have a pristine and clear view, but hey a bit of variety makes life more interesting. I love how you have shared your morning view with us Margie. A most descriptive write. No mountains anywhere near where i live, and yet I do love them so. Switzerland was wonderful when I visited and Scotland too. Your posted image looks fabulous. What a view on a clear day. Love your poem

You've painted quite a picture with such words alone. I almost couldn't distinguish between such vivid, airy colors of your words and the photo. Honestly, this was informative in a very beautiful way. The method in which you've displayed the season almost acts as the canvas for the reader to engage with such imagery. I love talks of ALL nature and this definitely gave me a fresh, daily dose. Great read, my friend!

We experienced the rain and the fog that nourished the grapes and

Beautiful writing of Coastal pleasures and undercurrents. truly, Pat

I enjoyed the visual as well as the prose. Prose flows the same as nature, world and earth flow. What you see and what you feel combine to contribute the fourth dimensional experience of life. Your poetry here BG is a fine expression of that understanding. Well done.

When we cruise into a port and see the mist atop a mountain, I always think it is an eerie aura. It makes me wonder what is behind the mist. How wonderful you get to see this from your home in the morning. Your love of nature is always evident in your writing. Thanks for sharing this. Lydi**

when I first came across the title, I initially wondered if you might have created a neologism, for the purposes of this particular poem.... then as I began to take in each line, it dawned on me... this is somewhere real.... this is an actual phenomenon that I had never heard of before.. so thanks BG, not only for this cracking poem, which I certainly enjoyed.. but also for the cool lesson on oceanographic phenomenon... Your mountains aint bad either... NUG ya..... N :)
