Acorn Revival

Acorn Revival

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspired by Jacob . . .

"

Ting! Tang! About to pang-wangle!

Now where was I?
Yep! Time to liberate my flannel shirts
since nippy dawns have begun dippin’
(hardy northern friends are trippin’
at what Big Sur hippies find nippin’!)

Blip! Block! What a head knock!

Just misplaced my drift!
Oh yeah! Sprinkling of nippy nights
so Ole Oak says summer’s last rites
flinging down acorn bullet bites
launching a month of revival nights.

Clack! Click! Quicker’na broomstick!

Don’t put a chock on my block!
Ah! That devilish acorn worship
is such a pitter-patter on my roof
gophers levitate up to say it’s living proof!
cheeky chipmunk chatters his saintly spoof
as my dogs gaze up and croon: woof-woof!

Snip! Snap! Well I’ll be swacked!

Every September the show is back
holy HOWL-alujah! chants a coyote pack
blue jays squawk their talk in tongues
raccoons laying hands on my tomatoes
accessory squirrels serve up suspicious sauce
vowing to go forth and be fruitful!

Pop! Bop! STOP! Up top!

My buds are plumping, promising relief
from persistent ping-pang awakenings!

Wump! Bump! Wasn’t THAT a thump!

Those rowdy rats rockin’ with the Holy Ghost
do the mountains melt in fervent fire? no . . .
it’s a peace pipe passed by a ring of rats
disguising a leaky stench from an old civet cat
intent on saving the souls of swooping bats
caught in ceaseless soaring sonar spats.

Ting! Tang! If I could only pang-wangle!
I’d find a way to launch this lofty tangle!

so i walked to the river park again this morning and ate a couple of plums while sitting by the river.. a little decompression time before I had to go meet some people at the store on bidness. Any way I am staring at the river while chomping away and chucked my first pit obliviously watching a tug boat glide by and out of the corner of my eye I see a groundhog eating my discarded plum he looked up at me after finishing the bit of fruit he could get from the pit with that nose shaking thing they do which looked very much like a hey you done with that other plum yet... i shook my head and of course threw the remaining fruit over to him he picked it up and scurried into some brush as if to say you cant have it back now and I laughed and walked back to my van. and now I come home and read this poem I guess maybe groundhogs aren't all that stupid maybe they just do what the do when they do it and just don't care what others think. But i'm left wondering now if that groundhog just pang wangled me? you know of course i love your alliteration and rhyme scheme in this and love your words

I wouldn't change a thing about thee no, not a single thing, hell no (TWEAKS) fondly N:)
What a fun write this is! The onomatopoeia is absolutely divine! The alliteration is such a romp. We sometimes hear the ducks doing a tango on the shed roof. Reminded me of that. Loved it, Margie. Lydi**

This is simply fabulous. Makes me feel like a child; your word-play
is hypnotic, like a spell cast over my imagination, over my morning ...

"Every September the show is back

My pleasure!
I love the title and the fun therein. Your individuality is supremely unique and in tune with nature. Its inhabitants are your neighbors even on roofs. Poetey can be a revival of sorts with deep longing, chanting and praying. Your page visit is a joyful ride Margie.

So cute! My grandboys would love this Margie. Great musical style, onomatopoeia, alliteration, rhyming- so animated and boisterous. You bring all these creatures alive and in their best wacky form. Ever think about writing a children’s book hmmmm......!!
