Ride the Raindrops

Ride the Raindrops

A Poem by barleygirl
"

forecast: first rains start tomorrow!

"

Kitchen sizzles since the crack of dawn
well-dressed turkey in a gobble marathon
overstuffed platters crowd the dinner table
pontificating grace to fit the family fable.

Give me wild turkeys on a sycamore morn
peevishly gobbling until they get airborne
weed whacking on an earthworm campaign
thanks tossed around for the season’s first rain.

Raindrop dodge, shake a leg with Kokopelli
sprinkled strawberries grace my outdoor deli
we gotta wiggle and giggle and get all muddy
performing a spry sparkling gratitude study.

We’ll ride the raindrops on a freedom spree
tumble down a crumbled shale cliff of scree
pitch some promises, snag some blisses
a butterscotch bouquet of carnelian kisses.

Sip sweet purity from the air, ecstasy subliminal
thankful that my needs and wants are minimal
just wanna feel raindrops’ blessing on my skin
rinse the rise of rage with a tinkling mandolin.

by the time thanksgiving comes around I will be awash with pots and pans after making multiple meals for Zenith Customers to take home so they can enjoy the holiday eating vegan with their families turkey dinners:) I will more than likely do something decidedly un-thanksgiving like and go to the casino and/or sleep all day after being exhausted LOL which in fact is a holiday to me:) I am always surrounded by people I love year round and well I feed people all of the time so thanksgiving is for the folks that don't do that often enough. I never needed a holiday to be thankful but I can always use a day off dear Margie and let it rain all over:)

Just celebrated with my family and ever so thankful to be together. I got my special treat, my oldest knows her dad LOVES pecan pie and she makes the best! Sure I had my share of the bird, but saved plenty of room for the pie. We were very fortunate and had beautiful weather our whole time in N.C.
Take care - Dave

You sometimes remind me that you must live in an episode of rhubarb and custard Margie, its an old kids cartoon that looks like it was drawn by kids and full of bright colours and jumpy shots drawn in crayon and not matching the previous shot in any way. All i remember about it is a big psychedelic cat, jumpin about the screen like he is at a rave and mad music playing....just like a rave really.
Notto be mistaken of course, with the soft chewy sweet of the same name. Delicious, but i wouldnt want to live in one.
So, thanksgiving is just an ordinary and every day day in the life, then? 😀

I think the robins bless the rain for bringing all those juicy night-crawlers to the surface. We roasted a chicken and spared a turkey this year. Plus, we all just love chicken soup. :) I like the line, "rinse the rise of rage". Nice depictions.

So, today's the day; and all the Turkeys have been done to death, (well, most of them,) or is that fake news and you've all gone vegan? :))

Can only say happy thanksgiving and that over here, a mere inch of rain this time of the year would be a real blessing.

Beccy.

Not just fancy celebrations in predictable ways, there are so many lovelier things to be thankful about. I love the visuals that ‘sprinkled strawberries’ and ‘riding the raindrops’ drew up for me. As always, your rhyming adds such zing to the message delivered.
Thankfulness is an attitude, a way of life for a blessed few and you are one of them. The simple joys and bounties of nature fill those free-spirited and pure-hearted with joy. And there lies true happiness. Appreciated so much, Margie. Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Damn! Just when I had my turkey cravings under control, out you come with this. It's raining here today ... temp hovering in high 40's, but that's not unusual in the Great Lakes region. The freeze thaw cycle will be starting soon ... the roads will fill with potholes ... I'll need to put out seed for our feathered friends.
We have seen a growing number of wild turkeys even here in the city ... not allowed to hunt them in our county.
Enjoy Thanksgiving. I think I'll look into a big slice of mincemeat pie ... with just a wee dollop of ice cream.

You site is the one I like to come to most around holiday season, you always nail the feelings, the sights, the smells, the frivolity and bullshit that comes along. As a human being you are a full package and read the room like quiet lawyer with the sticker on his tie or Dorothy Parker in the corner listening carefully for the next point of her story. Happy thanksgiving Margie...I hope you have an amazing day!!!

We had a period of extended heat and drought this year. I was really beginning to think it was stuck in that pattern and never going to change. So, when we finally got the first autumn rain, I did, also, go out and bask in it. It’s a gift no one can give, only the earth. And, it seems so much more precious when it’s absent for a long time.

I love that this begins with Thanksgiving celebrations: the kind of gluttony and (maybe) faking the grace. It’s hard to say what it means to everyone, but so many of our traditions and holidays have become excuses to mindlessly consume.

I like your idea of giving thanks in the poem. Going to the source and communing with it, and showing gratitude. You describe your paradise in such inviting terms, I can’t imagine a more fulfilling day.

Love the whimsy and message of this, Margie!
