Tick Infancy

Tick Infancy

A Poem by barleygirl
"

we all have hidden talents . . .

"

A dozen mutts
over sixty years and
so many tummy rubs
trained my fingertips
to detect a
tick in its infancy
before it burrows
before it billows
sensing a mere flake
a pesky sesame seed
buried deep in Lola’s
long thick winter pelt
a teensy weensy tick
in the dark of night
flip on the light
rustle the covers
and pick that tick!

this is delightfully creative...but i see more than just finding ticks here...the parasites in life that attack us or our friends...we become really good at recognition...
we feel them with our insight...
and we rid ourselves of them before the damage can be done.

I hate ticks! They think I'm filet mignon. I guess if I ran with your dogs, they'd be tick free. Oh, but then you'd have to search my beard for the little fiends.

Hahaha!!! Now that’s what I call original!!! Your held me all the way to the end, even though I knew what you were writing about.😀

It’s not every writer, in fact, very few, who can hold my attention while describing vermin in any shape or form.😀

Kudos to you, and thanks for the lesson in pet care.

Thankfully the pests are minimal here, with the dry heat! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
Oh those sensitive fingers! The sweetness and caring pet-motherly words of your poem ring so true. Yes, yes, yes- “before it burrows..before it billows”- we know our baby’s landscape like we know our own. We prospect, detect, eject and protect! Pebbles hates to be ‘prospected’, but bribery with chicken treats usually works to both our advantages. Your writing is so genuine and from the heart. You always make my day Margie-girl! Keep getting those nasty beasties off your beautiful little Lola! Hi-5 from Pebs too!

those nasty ticks
you have to be quick
or you'll get sick

or a pointy pin prick
Oh ick I hate ticks
