Deep Sea Caprice

Deep Sea Caprice

A Poem by barleygirl
"

abundant vitriol to escape these days . . .

"

Deep sea dive of blinding zeroes
a strait defined by stifling narrows
on an invented passage she goes
in search of the authentic heroes.

Spin of civilization is overrated
greedy enterprises so outdated
synchronicity has been truncated
vile objectives blatantly stated.

Bobbing beyond the bottom feeders
submersion dampens noisy pleaders
done with the discontent breeders
buoys bob like jaunty cheerleaders.

Smack the slimy whiskered catfish
who deign to subdue a lively swish
place her in a prescribed petri dish
to impart a spirit-stifling squish.

Watery world around yonder isle
here she wanders to splash a while
nobody around to cramp her style
beyond reach of those with guile.

dearest Margie... you are the uninhibited Mermaid of the Mountains... splashing around in the depths of natural springs observing the Whiskered Catfish who play cat and mouse in under water fantasy. A million dollar Spa, indeed. Wishing you Cardinals and Hearts that capture your Sweetheart Songs. truly, Pat

This took me to envisioning a person wrongfully accused of being crazy and being locked up (reminiscent of a movie I recently watched called changeling) - no idea why but that’s where my brain wandered to lol :) quite the valentine poem to your dogs haha!

This one makes me wet with excitement, all the splashing and watery stuff, and for your dogs only. I wish that I were one of your canines, and I love this: "Smack the slimy whiskered catfish"

Bravo, Poet!

With all the contemporary poets nowadays adopting the style of free verse, it's refreshing to see some rhyming poetry, especially something so playful and light-hearted as this!
My own rhymes feel forced to me sometimes, and that is one of the reasons I began writing free verse more, but I'm awestruck at how effortless your writing is.
I loved the subtle jabs at the "slimy whiskered catfishes".

You are priceless (((HUGS)))
Margie, you seem to be enjoying the underwater world more than the ugliness of what's on top (don't blame you!) This so catchy and bold and I love the way you describe the sea world and the catfish playing with other creatures. Since it's peaceful down there, it could very well portray a lovely Valentine wish.
Best, Betty

I'm a poet and I didn't know it.
It is sort of cool when you set your mind on a challenge and it delivers something completely out of the box.

What a fun write this is. So very creative and definitely one to be read aloud. I like how you seem to make subtle references to all the political noise we are all hearing and can relate to a need to get away from it all. It would be nice if we did have an "authentic hero" to come along and clean up some of the mess. At any rate, this poem definitely put a smile on my face. Hope you had a Happy Valentine's Day. As a dog lover myself, I couldn't think of a better muse :-)))
