Ice Cream Truck

Ice Cream Truck

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspired by canuck Dave Brown . . .

"

On a dreamy caper with my lovestruck canuck
strolling the stream where a woodchuck sucks
thinking to pluck a duck for tonight’s potluck
dumbstruck by the jingle of Mr. Jolly’s truck.

Why’s such a trotter trolling our backwaters
attempting to slay some ice cream slaughters
a tooth rotter seducing our sons and daughters
as it gets hotter, he’ll become a summer squatter.

Since this creamy dipstick is cruisin’ our crick
my schmuck pounds the truck with a lunatic kick
Jolly’s grin is slathered in lipstick red as brick
hocking ice cream drumsticks for our kids to lick.

Old familiar spark, we were lured by his jingle
those recognizable notes that give us all a tingle
but take an up close gander of this doofus dingle
a dubious magnet where kids can’t wait to mingle.

Thanks to Julie McCarthy (juliespenhere) for supplying a rad photo of Mr. Whippy's ice cream truck, as this is part of my inspiration, too! *smile*

Dave Brown's poem "Ice Cream Truck" is so nauseatingly sweet, it needed something slightly evil to balance it out some! *stink! stink!*

Some folks are sweet and pure
But others lack the trick
Of letting sweet little things
Have a simple ice cream lick

Stuck off in the dry backwoods
Where fun’s an unknown word
Thinking that each sweet little one
Is just an annoying little nurd

When she hears the jingle of the jangle
As the jolly truck means to please
Causes even her drumstick choice
To give her brain a freeze

What a reminder! Believe it or not one horrible summer I worked as a Good Humor driver. I think I ended up eating more than I sold. Well it seemed that way. For so many reasons it's a summer I'll never forget.
Don't smirk, most of the reasons were bad!

Take care - Dave

The ice cream truck.....we all remember running outside with a quarter in our hands to get our favorite treat from the ice cream man. Problem was some of those ice cream men were wolves in sheep's clothing. The innuendos here are great and the rhyming extra special. Enjoyed it, Margie. Lydi**

Wellll....I am not really a fan of ice cream; we ladies have to watch the figure carefully....it all goes to the hips after all! We Europeans mainly have gelato stores for our icy needs, so the truck is unfamiliar to me but for children and those with a sweet tooth it must be like dying and going to heaven having it drive past your home with such convenience. I enjoyed the poem and its tongue in cheek tone. :)

This piece of yours is just amazing! This is more of like tongue tying tongue twister to twist your tongue a ton. I love the rhyme scheme. I think "ice cream" is a symbol for a "temptation" that may want us to try though we know that after trying we can get some disadvantages or we can be harmed, however, we still try to lick it 'cause we want to experience what it feels like even if in the end, we'll get what we deserve. Also "ice cream" is an enjoyment for kids though parents always remind them to not eat it because it can cause their teeth to decay. Their are lots of possible meanings to this, that's why I find this piece of yours AMAZING!

So hard I could cry and laugh and do both at the same time!

Mr Whippy was a legend, ice cream was never the same after you tried your first whippy ice cream.
I always remember getting sent out with a bowl and telling the guy to fill it up.
Still don't know why an ice cream with a flake in it is called a 99. Maybe someone could enlighten me.
Got this impression of you in your ice cream van barring children, mothers, guys with dodgy blond hair, but allowing guys with beards free cones.
