Ripples

Ripples

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspiration: photo by a friend . . .

"

Sand crab scribbles or starfish stuck
ripples . . . we all tend to send ‘em
predawn skitterbugs get moonstruck
repercussions can rend or tend ‘em.

Crashing crest upon a surging swell
downward tugs the undertow
ancient chants within a conch shell
soft ripples stroke a kelp meadow.

Let me infuse these ripples of mine
reflecting rays that reverently spill
ribbons of sea and sky intertwine
coaxing hearts to a blissful standstill.

Sometimes a lone nomadic surge
can be as fearsome as a tidal wave
the pounding surf a funeral dirge
on some voyage to an early grave.

Each new day will not be denied
pouring out every shade of dawn
light relentless as the rippling tide
let’s run a reflection marathon.

Woww what a brilliant poetic piece, I'm here to admire all the ripples and rippling effects of imagery and your wording all so awesomely painted in muse. I like how you fit in ' nomadic surge' gives it a wandering effect. Kudos for a fabulous poem. Write on!!

Great photo Margie. Reminds me of sunrise walks along the beach in Sri Lanka and helping the fishermen pull in the nets. Also inspired my emotional story about the boxing day Tsunami. My daughter went out aged 18 to help survivors. Your poem is great. Verse two is super and coaxing heart to a blissful standstill rings true. I've been taking photos every day of lockdown and sharing then and that moment when magic happens and you have a blissful standstill. But that moment doesn't last and the tidal surge will come.
God bless America!
Take care
Alan

There's such a wild random flow in this.. upping and downing.. backing and forthing.. movement sgalore.. crashing sounds.. serpentine flow., more and more. It's all here and with your extraordinary use of words and rhythm. Love it! If it were a man, would propose!

Yup. I definitely like your stuff. The rhyming, alliteration, word pool (as I believe Stephen King describes it in Liseys Story), repetition such as ‘tend to send ‘em/rend or tend ‘em’. And the imagery, of course, is spot on.’ribbons of sea and sky intertwine, coaxing hearts to a blissful standstill’ indeed

That is a magnificent photo! I can see why you were inspired by it. There is nothing quite like a morning walk along the shoreline and seeing the sun rise over the ocean. The imagery makes me long for the beach. Beautifully written. Lydi**

The photo works well with the poem. There is something almost mystical here. I lived inland for three years in the middle of the country and god I missed the ocean. There is a power there and you capture it. The entire day is covered here. I wish I can spend this day on the beach you describe- no stress, just watching the little universes on the beach.

"Ribbons of sea and sky intertwine." I think this is one of the main lessons of this beautiful word picture. It seems to see nature, despite its many variations, as part of a single, vast whole, the perception of which results in "coaxing hearts to a blissful standstill." It is in such moments that we can see ourselves as part of that great tapestry. Then, unfortunately, we revert to Facebook and the online news.

AS I've said before, your writing style is so unique...so special...the surges the tidal waves, the nomadic one, the dreamy sky, when the sea and sky become one...this should be a painting!!! Love it!
