Cali Cauldron

Cali Cauldron

A Poem by barleygirl
"

inspired by photo looking down at Cali fires thru clouds . . .

"

Between inferno row and death valley
devastating fires don’t dillydally
smoking carcasses litter the galley
by a belching cauldron called “Cali”.

Remember when we used to see sky?
The firmament has left us high and dry
political hounds so eager to crucify
all gone now and there’s no goodbye.

As Cali goes snap, crackle and howl
let’s blame the northern spotted owl
not the oil baron with ruffled jowl
shut up, stir the cauldron and scowl.

Beyond this smoldering ceiling
gray puffs skirt the sky freewheeling
through crevasses a rage is revealing
doomed atmosphere our fate is sealing.

Two million acres have burned in California in less than a month.
Almost 200,000 people in the USA have died of covid in just a few months.

Good rhyming on this one, bg. My wife showed me a picture on FB of Portland on the day it had the worst air quality in the world. London on its foggiest day could not approach it, and it was all a sickly yellow. On this coast, we may see five named storms in the Atlantic next week. You toke, I'll sip.

Like I just wrote you this morning California smoke was blowing all over Pennsylvania yesterday:/ the whole country is choking on the smoke of our disregard:( if this isn’t a clear message of the need for drastic changes I don’t know what more you need? Maybe a few dozen hurricanes and some heat waves would add a nice exclamation point! Awesome penning misses Willis

Another well-written piece :) . This poem is like explaining the whole political and social situation related to the events through a single, befitting analogy, where everyone's just stirring the pot and these unfortunate calamities still keep on happening. I'm sure if I read the news further, I'll find out the Oil baron reference here.

Sadly, in today's world, unfortunate events like these are milked for profit and lots of red herrings lay scattered by people who are keen on distracting the whole matter so they could gather some views.

Thanks for sharing.

That is a stunning photo and quite ominous considering the viewpoint it gives. These fires are showing no sign of easing if my news is up to date. As the Earth warms up it's something we will have to deal with every year, i feel. It makes me grateful to be living in a city and not amongst these burning forests. Hopefully some much needed rain arrives to give these firefighters a helping hand. Keep staying safe out there! I enjoyed the flow and rhyme here and the political blame game mixed into the message.

This is a global related issues. Everywhere is being affected one way or the other. Schools shutdown, places of worship are closed, everybody immured in there own house, life on the street became a history. Too much trouble in the atmosphere with the fog of anxiety.
I pray this should be resolved as soon as possible.

By the way, I like you wordplay.
Well crafted, Margie.

I read somewhere the other day that tampering with the natural forest fires for over a hundred years lead to overgrowth of vegetation and forests, all fueling this horrific blaze. Should we have left those fires alone? All I understand from your very stark and hitting poem is that this isn't normal and something isn't right with how things are in the environment presently. The sense of doom is felt absolutely from your words, dear Margie. Stay healthy, keep safe.
